Senior Scientist, wet lab (all genders) – Mobius Bio
Join to apply for the Senior Scientist, wet lab (all genders) role at Mobius Bio.
Why this role matters
At Mobius, decisions start at the bench. You’ll convert hypotheses into robust evidence that allows us to pick the right molecules and develop transformative drugs for patients. As a Senior Scientist, you will act as a multiplier: coaching and collaborating with peers and colleagues to design, execute, and interpret the most impactful experiments. Your success is the combination of rigorous scientific thinking, high-quality data generation and working within a team that gets better and more autonomous because of you.
What you’ll tackle
- End-to-end experimentation:Prioritise, plan, execute, troubleshoot, analyse, and interpret experiments with high scientific standards and a clear focus on enabling strategic decision making.
- From data to next steps:Integrate results with literature to propose logical next experiments within the context of project and company goals; focus on value creation and systematically de-risking opportunities.
- Shape projects:Co-create mid-term plans with clear decision gates considering cost, timelines and risk/reward trade-offs; align scope with senior stakeholders (clinical/CRO/scientific/facilities).
- Multiply others:Mentor colleagues so they become independent problem solvers; lead projects or workstreams, communicate with external stakeholders.
- Stay at the scientific frontier:Spot emerging data and relevant innovations, translate advances in the field into testable hypotheses and simple playbooks the team can reuse.
How you’ll work
- Scientifically rigorous and focused on value generation:Based on a deep understanding of scientific and project context you plan “killer experiments” that get us to key decision points quickly, you choose fit-for-purpose techniques, controls and analysis strategies, and provide clear interpretations of results to support robust decision making.
- Independent yet collaborative:You think on your own feet and have a high degree of independence yet are very collaborative and know when you need to ask for help. You work closely with colleagues in biology, bioinformatics, chemistry but also external advisors in diverse fields including pharmacology, toxicology or clinical development to ensure that we have all bases covered. At Mobius, drug discovery is a team sport.
- Quality with pragmatism:You focus on high quality data generation, diligent documentation and reproducibility whilst understanding what is good enough to move to move fast. Together with your colleagues, you evaluate what we do internally versus outsource to CROs to optimise cost efficiency.
What you’ll bring
- Education:PhD in molecular biology or related field, ideally with a post-doc; alternatively, MSc with extensive industry experience.
- Hands‑on experimental skills:Human cell culture, common wet‑lab techniques (e.g., CRISPR/siRNA, cDNA cloning and over expression, qPCR, WB, ELISA/AlphaLISA, IF/microscopy, flow cytometry, other plate‑based assays), essential data analysis, visualisation and statistics skills (e.g., plotting, t‑Test, ANOVA, multiple comparison correction).
- Scientific thinking:Strong experimental design, data analysis and interpretation skills; transparent and independent reasoning from data to decision and next steps.
- Communication:cross-collaborative communication and decision making with other teams (bioinformatics, NGS, vision pipeline and ML, clinical operations…)
- Self‑starter and enablement mindset:Strong problem solving skills; you coach, you systematise, you leave others more capable than before; you walk the extra mile and enable management to make the best possible strategic decision.
- Collaboration:Calm troubleshooting, clear writing/presenting skills, ability to constructively challenge, give and accept feedback.
- Bonus (nice‑to‑haves):experience working with primary human tissues; advanced bioinformatics and/or data analysis skills (e.g., R, Python).
What good looks like
90 days:Master working with primary human tissues and our proprietary assay platform, familiarise with ongoing R&D activities, independently running a project workstream, generating data that supports decision making; identify opportunities to increase efficiency and proposed concrete solutions.
6 months:Make substantial contributions to the execution of our R&D strategy, driving projects to key decision points; shaping a mid‑term plan with risk/kill criteria; colleagues independently applying frameworks you introduced; measurable improvements in cycle time.
Compensations & Benefits
Salary transparency: Austrian law requires stating the minimum gross base pay under the applicable collective bargaining agreement (KV).
- Actual compensation will be higher depending on experience and qualifications.
- Benefits:Lunch vouchers, Job Rad (cycle leasing scheme), Mavie (personal wellbeing), home office possibilities, stock options, great and welcoming office environment (snacks, drinks, …), company sponsored public transport ticket.
How to apply
Upload your CV plus a concise cover letter outlining why you are the right candidate for the job. Please support with examples (e.g., projects you drove forward, experiments you designed, examples where you coached colleagues) where possible.
Links to preprints/publications or code notebooks are welcome.

About Mobius
Mobius is a discovery stage biotech utilising a unique, clinically validated platform to identify and develop novel anticancer drugs.
Our vision is to systematically go beyond the mouse and discover molecules rooted in a deep understanding of human biology, not animal models, to deliver medicines designed to succeed in the clinic.
We do this by integrating frontier AI capabilities, deep disease insights and a proprietary wet lab platform, which allows us to interrogate disease mechanisms directly in live human tissue samples with proven clinical relevance.
We are an international team of dedicated drug hunters, engineers and entrepreneurs determined to bring transformative treatments to patients with high unmet medical needs.
