Job summary

University of Vienna invites applications for a Senior Scientist in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. The role focuses on leading HPLC-driven research and teaching, with a fixed-term contract and an adequate starting salary.

You will provide technical support, plan your own projects, publish in English journals, and conduct courses per collective agreements. The position is a temporary replacement ending 14 March 2027, with flexible work options in a center-city Vienna setting.

Qualifications

• Completed doctoral/PhD in pharmacy/chemistry or similar.
• Publications in renowned peer-reviewed journals.
• Excellent technical and methodological skills in separation and analysis techniques (incl. enantiomeric purity) and high‑resolution mass spectrometry.
• Experience in independently holding courses.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Knowledge of university processes and structures.
• Desirable: experience with OS and software for automated HPLC measurement/evaluation.
• Excellent knowledge of English (C1).
• Team player with strong social/communication skills.
• IT skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support for research projects at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
• Routine maintenance and coordination of repairs to analytical and preparative HPLC equipment.
• Planning and carrying out your own research projects in the field of pharmaceutical chemistry.
• Publishing research results in English-language journals.
• Independently hold courses in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement.
• Take on administrative tasks in research and teaching.
• Providing technical support for the chromatographic separation of drugs (analytical and preparative).
• Participate in evaluation measures and in quality assurance.
• Take on administrative tasks in research, teaching and administration.
