KWY is a leading Aboriginal Community-Controlled organisation in South Australia, committed to Creating a Space for Change for Aboriginal families and communities.

Since 2011, KWY has worked to break the cycle of domestic violence, promote safety for women and children, and reduce Aboriginal children in the child protection system through a specialised suite of programs focused on empowering families through culturally grounded support and healing.

Supporting over 1,800 families annually and growing, KWY offers a dynamic and values-driven work environment where your contributions make a real impact. Join our inclusive, collaborative team and help drive meaningful change.

About the position:

We are seeking a strategic and experienced Senior Policy Officer/Specialist to lead KWY’s policy, quality, WHS and compliance functions. This role is pivotal in overseeing the development, implementation, and review of organisational policies and quality frameworks to ensure excellence in service delivery, legislative compliance, and ongoing accreditation (including ASES). Full time or part time hours (negotiable).

The Senior Policy Officer/Specialist provides leadership and high-level advice on quality assurance, risk, WHS, and compliance matters, and supports organisational capability through robust policy development, knowledge management, and continuous improvement processes. A key component of the role is the supervision and mentoring of a Policy Officer in the Team.

You will work closely with the Executive and Senior Management Teams to ensure that KWY’s practice frameworks, internal systems, and strategic positioning are informed by strong policy foundations, research, and evidence base grounded in Aboriginal-led practice and trauma-informed care.

  • Oversee the organisation’s accreditation and licensing obligations (e.g. ASES), ensuring standards are maintained and exceeded.
  • Lead the development and management of WHS systems, policies and processes.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and funding body requirements through effective monitoring, reporting and continuous improvement systems.
  • Develop and embed policy development and review cycles, including templates, communication plans, and consultation processes.
  • Provide high-level advice and support to senior leaders on policy and compliance matters.
  • Monitor legislative and sector changes to ensure currency and responsiveness of policy and practice.
  • Lead and contribute to strategic projects, including advocacy papers, policy submissions, and research-informed initiatives.
  • Build staff capability in quality and compliance through training, coaching, and accessible resources.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, quality, and evidence-based practice throughout KWY.

About you:

We are seeking motivated and experienced person with a strong background in policy development, compliance, WHS and quality assurance within community or social services. You will have a proven ability to lead and deliver strategic policy frameworks that support high-quality, culturally safe, and trauma-informed services—particularly in the context of Aboriginal families and communities.

You will bring expertise in navigating accreditation standards such as ASES, and a sound understanding of legislative and regulatory environments relevant to service delivery. You will also be confident in mentoring and supervising staff, managing complex workloads, and working collaboratively across teams to drive continuous improvement.

Your strategic mindset, excellent communication skills, and deep understanding of the policy cycle will be matched by a commitment to equity, cultural safety, and meaningful engagement with Aboriginal people and communities.
