About the opportunity

The Senior Payroll Officer is responsible for overseeing and performing a wide range of payroll-related activities, including the fortnightly pay run, reconciliations, interpreting awards and contracts, and resolving complex queries. This position plays a key role in supporting the Payroll Team, implementing efficient processes, resolving enquiries, stakeholder management and ensuring compliance.

Your key responsibilities
  • support leading the team responsible for processing the fortnightly payrun, fostering a high-performing and collaborative team environment
  • take responsibility for, and lead the fortnightly payrun processing in Ascender Pay
  • utilise performance metrics to ensure the delivery of efficient and effective payroll services
  • serve as a point of escalation and provide technical expertise to resolve complex payroll matters
  • assist with continuous improvement initiatives to optimise payroll processes, systems, and service delivery, leveraging innovative technologies and practices
  • assist the Manager of Payroll Processing in the development of team in upskilling on payroll knowledge, critical thinking and process improvement
  • assist with managing risk and workplace health and safety within the work area and ensure a safe working environment and compliance with university policies and procedures
About you
  • Bachelor\'s degree in a relevant field, or equivalent combination of training and experience
  • demonstrated experience in end-to-end payroll processing and payroll administration
  • experience in a high-volume customer service environment
  • sound knowledge of terminations and redundancies procedures
  • strong understanding of taxation laws and their application to payroll
  • proven ability to interpret and apply legislation and enterprise agreements
  • ability to apply policies and procedures.
