About us

The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) is responsible for training, educating and representing psychiatrists in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand. The College is accredited by the Australian Medical Council (AMC) and the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) to deliver specialist medical education and training, and professional development programs. About the role

We’re looking for a seasoned, strategic leader who delivers results with clarity, purpose, and impact. This is a pivotal role at the heart of our education and training programs.

You’ll lead the strategic direction, operational delivery and quality enhancement of the College’s Fellowship Program, Certificates of Advanced Training, and Certificate of Postgraduate Training in Clinical Psychiatry.

What you’ll do

  • Lead the strategy – Lead strategic development and operational planning across the training continuum, ensuring alignment with accreditation standards and future workforce needs.
  • Run the engine – Oversee the day-to-day delivery, operations and improvement of training programs, policy implementation, curriculum development and outcome evaluation.
  • Lead with impact – Manage multiple, complex teams and foster an ambitious, values-driven culture that puts quality and collaboration first.
  • Shape the future – Provide strategic advice on accreditation risks and reforms and work closely with senior leaders, committees and external stakeholders to ensure the College stays ahead of the curve.
  • Raise the standard – Ensure training programs meet the Australian Medical Council’s accreditation requirements and lead continuous improvement initiatives to elevate our offering.

What you’ll bring

  • Proven leadership in medical or health education, with deep experience in strategic development, operational planning, and navigating complex systems.
  • Track record of leading professional, high-performing teams, especially through change.
  • Strength in building trust and influence across diverse stakeholder groups, from executive committees to regulators.
  • Expertise in continuous quality improvement, curriculum innovation, and educational policy development.
  • Advanced analytical skills and the ability to translate complex educational data into actionable insights.
  • Exceptional communicator; confident in presenting, writing high-level reports, and engaging audiences at all levels.
  • Postgraduate qualifications in education, public health, or a related field, and/or significant experience in postgraduate medical education.
  • High ethical standards, a strong work ethic, and a genuine commitment to better mental health outcomes.

What else you need to know

  • Background in membership or nonprofit organisations is advantageous, as is an interest in contributing to improvements in mental healthcare.
  • Australian or New Zealand citizenship, or the right to work in Australia.
  • Successful candidates must complete and pass a National Police Check before commencing employment.
  • Salary range from $135,000 to $165,000 total remuneration package (TRP) is on offer, inclusive of leave loading and 12% superannuation.
