About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Health & Safety Advisor to join our Meandu project on a full time permanent basis. Reporting to the HST Superintendent, you will assist and support the Health and Safety function in the implementation, coordination and effectiveness of all functional health and safety issues at the mine.
Responsibilities
- Providing advice and assistance to frontline leaders and workers regarding risk and hazard management
- Maintaining the site's SHMS including the development of Standard Operating Procedures and processes and ensuring legislative compliance
- Leading safety investigations (including ICAM), preparing reports and recommendations and implementation of corrective and preventative actions
- Facilitation of Risk Assessments and mentoring of the risk assessment process to front line and middle management, contributing to the identification, elimination and control of workplace hazards
- Identification of safety issues and problems ensuring corrective action is taken and monitored
- Preparation, participation and facilitation of Functional Audits (CRM, SHMS)
- Conducting workplace inspections, critical control observations and field leadership activities and providing guidance and coaching on improving safety practices
- Facilitating Injury Management and Workplace Rehabilitation for injured workers in consultation with medical practitioners
- Coordinating occupational hygiene monitoring / projects / audits
- Communicating to employees on site performance as well as broader corporate departments in regard to safety issues
- Mentoring, coaching and developing Safety Advisors in the performance of their roles
- Supporting SSE, contract owners, contractors and suppliers with meeting their obligations under the Contractor Management System and SHMS
- Leading continuous improvement activities and providing knowledge to improve the Contractor Management System
- Auditing of the Contractor Management System and implementation of improvement plans
Qualifications
- Formal Health & Safety qualifications in WHS / Risk / Hygiene (Diploma in Workplace Health & Safety or a related qualification minimum)
- RIIFIS402 (G2)
- Rehabilitation and Return to Work competency
- Lead Auditor qualification (RABQSA or Diploma of Quality Auditing) - desirable
- 5+ years' experience in a Health & Safety position within a high risk / heavy work industry (Mining, Oil & Gas, Construction, Manufacturing)
- Understanding of Risk Management practices, Incident Investigation and analysis techniques, and SHMS development and implementation
- Strong understanding of health and safety regulations within the mining industry will be highly regarded
- Positive influencer with ability to engage with people from multi cultures
- Energetic with a professional desire to improve H&S at a front-line level

BUMA Australia provides a total mine service to Stanwell Corporation\'s Meandu Mine to deliver coal to the adjacent Tarong power station. We are responsible for both managing and operating the mine.
Services provided include planning, drilling, overburden removal, coal mining, coal processing, rehabilitation, and maintenance of mobile and fixed plant. The project uses a combination of dragline and truck-and shovel operations. Meandu Mine currently has five working pits, with sufficient coal to fuel the stations until at least 2037.
