Job summary

REWE Group Austria is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, develop and operate GIS applications and services. You will work across location planning, expansion and analytics, shaping modern GIS solutions in an international retail environment.

You will build backend services with Java/Spring Boot, develop REST APIs, and optimise PostgreSQL/PostGIS and Oracle databases. Collaboration with analysts and other developers is essential for scalable, cloud-ready platforms.

Qualifications

• Experience in software engineering and backend development.
• Strong Java knowledge and backend frameworks (Spring Boot preferred).
• REST API design and distributed system integration experience.
• Strong SQL with Oracle/PostgreSQL in enterprise settings.
• Knowledge of database design, queries and performance tuning.
• Git and modern software development workflows familiarity.
• Understand software architecture patterns and clean code.
• Analytical, problem solving and independent work style.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Nice to have: GIS technologies, PostGIS/Oracle Spatial, cloud and microservices.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain GIS applications and services.
• Implement backend solutions using Java and related tech.
• Develop and maintain REST APIs, system integrations and data processing.
• Design and optimise PostgreSQL/PostGIS and Oracle db structures.
• Collaborate with Analysts, Product Owners and developers to translate requirements.
• Evolve GIS architecture toward modern, cloud-ready platforms.
• Support operation, troubleshooting and continuous improvement of GIS apps.
• Participate in architectural discussions and tech decisions.
• Support CI/CD processes for continuous delivery.
