Job summary

SmartRecruiters, Inc. is seeking a Senior Full-Stack Application Engineer with a data focus in Austria to build and operate high-impact applications for performance insights, race-day tools, and scientific models. You’ll connect the Pro Cycling team with the Sports Data Platform, translating requirements into robust software solutions.

You will own engineering for data-driven tools, collaborate with coaches and data scientists, and ensure secure, scalable deployment across cloud environments.

Qualifications

• Higher education in IT or equivalent work experience
• Fluency in both German and English
• A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in full-stack software engineering, data application engineering, or a comparable technical role
• Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to engage coaches, data scientists, performance staff, and platform teams, manage expectations, and translate operational needs into clear technical specifications and intuitive tools
• Proven experience building production-grade full-stack applications, with a focus on reliability, usability, and long-term maintainability
• Hands-on frontend experience with React, Vite, TanStack Query/Table, Tailwind CSS, Radix UI/shadcn, and PWA fundamentals
• Confidence working with SQL, BigQuery, dbt-modelled datasets, and APIs, using central data products effectively rather than creating unnecessary parallel pipelines
• Practical cloud and DevOps experience, ideally with GCP, Cloud Run, GKE, Cloud Functions, Docker, Kubernetes, existing Terraform foundations, and GitHub Actions/CI/CD
• A quality-driven engineering approach, including Git, thorough code reviews, and automated testing with pytest, Vitest, and Playwright
• A proactive, hands-on mindset, taking ownership and staying pragmatic and calm during critical moments, including race-day support, while applying strong security practices
• Clear documentation skills and a commitment to sustainable delivery, keeping systems maintainable for a small team and contributing to shared SDP/APC engineering standards
• Early leadership experience, web scraping, third-party integrations, mapping tools (Leaflet), or BI and visualisation tools (Recharts, QuickSight) are a plus

Responsibilities

• Build, maintain, and improve applications that support riders and staff, from performance dashboards to race-day tools and planning solutions.
• Translate team requirements into technical specifications and integrate SDP data products into practical applications.
• Transform scientific models into deployed tools, owning the engineering side from packaging to deployment and reliability.
• Deploy and operate applications using IaC foundations, CI/CD pipelines, and containerised delivery with strong security practices.
• Collaborate with coaches, the data scientist, and performance staff to deliver maintainable solutions and uphold engineering standards.
