Job summary

PIDSO in Vienna is seeking a hands-on embedded systems architect to shape reusable software platforms for our antenna, radar, and communications systems. You will deal with ARM processors, real-time software, FPGA/DSP, and in-house hardware, guiding architecture from prototype to released product.

You will work across embedded teams, production, and quality, taking ownership of platform decisions, security, interfaces, and lifecycle behavior, with real-world impact in critical applications.

Qualifications

• Seven years of embedded-software development with platform ownership or critical subsystem release.
• Security- or lifecycle-critical embedded capability ownership (secure boot, authenticated updates, rollback).
• Strong C/C++ on ARM SoCs, microcontrollers, RTOS, embedded Linux, or similar low-level env.
• Examples of architecture decisions with trade-offs, validation, and lessons learned.
• Experience writing verifiable requirements and linking them to design/verification.
• Experience defining hardware/software contracts, concurrency, timing, and observability.

Responsibilities

• Own platform decisions covering startup, watchdogs, diagnostics, configuration, update, rollback, recovery, and lifecycle behavior.
• Translate needs into verifiable system/platform requirements with traceability to architecture decisions.
• Define interfaces between software, hardware, PL, OS, and tools; clarify ownership, versioning, and compatibility.
• Evaluate processors, SoCs, OS, toolchains, and shared components against product/lifecycle constraints.
• Stay hands-on through implementation, prototyping, debugging, tests, and critical code reviews.
• Apply security engineering to trust boundaries, secure boot/updates, device identity, provisioning, and key lifecycle.
• Document decisions with working software, tests, and concise records; improve builds/releases/configuration mgmt.
• Lead design reviews and help engineers own platform components.
• Maintain ICDs and acceptance criteria across teams; improve handoff from R&D to Production.
