RetInSight, a Topcon Healthcare company, is seeking a Senior AI Scientist (m/f/d) in Vienna to drive rapid prototyping and evidence generation for AI healthcare solutions. You will translate clinical questions into rigorous research plans and develop advanced ML methods using medical imaging and longitudinal data.

The role collaborates with AI, data, clinical and product teams to transfer research into deployable solutions and to publish and validate results.

Qualifikationen

• PhD or equivalent in quantitative/clinical field preferred; Master’s depth considered.
• 2+ years with PhD or 5+ years with Master in applied AI, medical-imaging or clinical-data-science with scientific ownership.
• Strong Python skills for machine learning, deep learning, image analysis and statistical computing.
• Expertise in experimental design, statistical inference, model validation, reproducibility and longitudinal or retrospective clinical analysis.
• Practical computer-vision and medical-image-analysis experience.
• Retinal OCT or fundus-imaging knowledge; regulated-environment experience desirable.
• A record of publications, conference abstracts or technical reports.
• Strong communication skills in English

Senior AI Scientist (m/f/d)

Vienna – full-time – 38.5 hours/week – immediate start

We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated Senior AI Scientist (m/f/d) to lead rapid prototyping and evidence generation for innovative AI solutions for healthcare and clinical. In this role, you will translate clinical, product and pharmaceutical questions into rigorous research plans, develop and evaluate advanced machine‑learning methods, and assess their feasibility using medical‑imaging and longitudinal clinical data. You will define robust benchmarks, conduct statistical, error and robustness analyses, and produce reproducible evidence for scientific publications, validation activities and delivery decisions. Working closely with AI, data, clinical and product specialists, you will help transfer promising research into deployable solutions. The ideal candidate combines scientific depth, strong machine‑learning and medical‑image‑analysis expertise, and a collaborative mindset with a passion for turning research into meaningful healthcare impact.

Your Role/Responsibilities

Your Profile

• Doctorate in a relevant quantitative or clinical field like computer science, statistics, computer vision, mathematics or biomedical engineering is preferred; a Master's degree with equivalent research depth is also considered.
• Experience of least 2 years with a PhD or 5 years with a Master’s degree in applied AI research, medical‑imaging or clinical‑data‑science with scientific ownership
• Strong Python skills for machine learning, deep learning, image analysis and statistical computing
• Expertise in experimental design, statistical inference, model validation, reproducibility and longitudinal or retrospective clinical analysis
• Practical computer‑vision and medical‑image‑analysis experience
• Retinal OCT or fundus‑imaging knowledge as well as regulated‑environment experience is highly desirable
• A record of publications, conference abstracts, technical reports or comparable scientific outputs
• Strong communication skills in English

You can expect a gross yearly salary starting at EUR 64.554,-- (on full‑time basis, 38.5 hours/week based on the collective agreement) with the willingness to overpay according to your qualification and experience.
