Zusammenfassung

Roche invites a PhD-qualified synthetic organic chemist to join the pRED Small Molecule Research Dolphin team in Basel. The role focuses on automating and scaling synthesis, expanding parallel chemistry and late-stage functionalization, and developing miniaturized, data-driven methods for biological screening.

You will generate high-quality reaction datasets for machine-learning, coordinate cross‑functional and CRO collaborations across Europe and China, and guide digital/automation initiatives

Qualifikationen

  • PhD in Synthetic Organic Chemistry with at least four years of industry experience.
  • Strong background in automation technology, including solid dosing and liquid handling integrated with analytical and purification methodologies.
  • Expertise in synthetic methodology development and hands‑on laboratory experimentation in small‑molecule synthesis.
  • Experience assessing and implementing digitalization and automation solutions in chemical laboratories.
  • Understanding of machine‑learning concepts for reaction prediction and experience collecting reaction datasets.
  • Experience applying parallel medicinal chemistry approaches to solve medicinal chemistry problems.
  • Experience in cross‑functional and international relationship building, stakeholder management, and academic collaborations.
  • Demonstrated ability to distribute and prioritize work packages between internal and CRO‑based teams.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, strong interpersonal abilities, and a track record of leading matrix teams without positional authority.

  • Serve as a contact point for parallel synthesis between Basel, Shanghai, and San Francisco.

Position Overview

In Roche’s Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development (pRED) organization, the Medicinal Chemistry team in Small Molecule Research based in Basel focuses on accelerating compound synthesis through automation and digitalization as part of the Dolphin team. The role involves expanding and executing synthetic technologies such as parallel chemistry and late‑stage functionalization and introducing new synthetic methodologies that include reaction miniaturization, photochemical transformations, small‑scale purification, and analytical development. The scientist will also contribute to generating high‑quality reaction datasets for machine‑learning applications and collaborate with project teams to influence opportunities in late‑stage functionalization, library synthesis, and digital/automation applications.
Coordinates internal teams and manages CRO teams in Europe and China, serving as the contact point for parallel synthesis between Basel, Shanghai, and San Francisco sites.
