Octapharma seeks a Scientist (m/w/d) - R&D Product & Process Development in Vienna for a temporary assignment until 29.02.2028. You will develop and optimize production processes for blood plasma proteins and establish analytical methods for process and product characterization.

The ideal candidate holds a Master’s or PhD in natural sciences, with protein purification expertise and strong English and German skills, and will collaborate with internal teams and external partners.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in natural sciences (chemistry, pharmacy, or biochemistry).
• Experience in protein purification and analytical method development.
• Knowledge of protein labeling is advantageous.
• Pharma or plasma industry experience is a plus.
• Strong communication and project management skills.

Responsibilities

• Development and optimization of production processes for plasma protein manufacture.
• Establishment and application of analytical methods for characterization.
• Collaboration with CROs, universities, and internal interfaces.
• Plan, execute, evaluate and document laboratory experiments per GMP.
• Support scientific inquiries and regulatory/customer questions.
• Prepare technical documents and present results.
• Provide technical guidance and supervise lab technicians.

Your main tasks and responsibilities

• Development and optimization of production processes for the manufacture of blood plasma proteins for medical applications
• Establishment and application of analytical test methods for process and product characterization
• Close collaboration with external partners (e.g., CROs, universities) and internal interfaces (Production, Quality Control, Regulatory Affairs)
• Planning, execution, evaluation, and GMP-compliant documentation of laboratory experiments
• Support for scientific inquiries and regulatory and customer-related questions
• Preparation of technical and scientific documents (instructions, study reports, publications) and presentation of results
• Technical guidance and supervision of laboratory technicians

Your expertise and ideal skill set

• Completed degree in natural science, such as chemistry, pharmacy, or biochemistry (Master or PhD)
• Knowledge in protein purification and the development of analytical methods
• Familiarity with (radioactive) labelling of proteins is an advantage
• Professional experience in the blood plasma or diagnostic industry is a plus
• Strong communication and project management skills, analytical thinking, and problem-solving ability
• High level of commitment, perseverance and a structured way of working
• Confident use of Microsoft 365 and ideally electronic laboratory systems (e.g., LIMS)
• Fluent in German and highly proficient in English, both spoken and written

The minimum gross salary according to the collective agreement (chemical industry) is EUR 4.355,55 based on 38 hours per week (full-time). As we strive to offer a salary that reflects your individual profile and qualifications, there is a willingness to pay above the minimum salary.
