AIT Austrian Institute of Technology in Vienna seeks a PhD-level engineer to advance next-generation aeronautical battery systems, including design, testing, and modelling from cell to pack.

You will collaborate with European partners, publish in top journals, and supervise PhD/master students, with English proficiency required and German desirable. The role offers flexible work arrangements and strong research opportunities.

Qualifikationen

  • PhD-level qualification in Electrical or Aerospace Engineering, with focus on battery design and testing.
  • Alternatively, MSc-level qualification with relevant experience accepted.
  • Publication record in high-ranking journals is essential.
  • Experience in profiles: AI/ML in engineering; high voltage design; light-weight design; hybrid-electric systems for aircraft.
  • Proficiency in Python, MATLAB/Simulink, C/C++, or similar languages.
  • Knowledge of battery electrochemistry and modelling valued.
  • Experience with tools such as ANSYS, Modelica, or Dymola valued.
  • Experience in European projects (Horizon Europe/Clean Aviation) is an asset.
  • Strong motivation for scientific career; excellent English; German desirable.

Aufgaben

  • Support development of next generation batteries for aeronautical applications from cell selection to pack testing.
  • Develop and test physics-based AI/ML methods interconnecting testing and design.
  • Develop numerical tools for predicting battery states and safety at cell to pack level.
  • Interface with scientists and engineers across Europe.
  • Work with European institutions and international partners on multi-year projects.
  • Build your network and help define strategic research directions; assist in proposals.
  • Publish results in high-ranking journals and support others in publishing.
  • Supervise PhD and master’s students.
