The University of Vienna invites applications for a University Assistant postdoctoral position in Sanskrit philosophy within Prof. Elisa Freschi's research team at the Faculty of Philosophy and Education.

The appointment is for three years, renewable for another three. You will conduct research, teach, and contribute to department administration, with emphasis on Mīmāṃsā, Vedānta, and related topics, in an international, English-speaking setting.

Qualifikationen

• Completed doctoral studies in Sanskrit philosophy. PhD title may be within Philosophy, Religion, or South Asia.
• Track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals.
• Command of Sanskrit.
• Teaching experience.
• Excellent knowledge of English (C1).
• Organizational skills and willingness to organize events, including reading groups, talks, workshops.
• Ability to work in a team toward joint goals, such as co-authored articles, co-edited volumes and co-organised events.
• Ability to commit to realistic goals and to complete them in the allotted time.
• Knowledge of German or willingness to acquire proficiency within 2 years.
• Knowledge of another Indian language (Maṇipravāḷam, Tamil, Bengali) or Tibetan.

Aufgaben

• Produce excellent research in philosophy.
• Take part in and help organizing research activities such as reading groups, workshops, visiting talks.
• Publish in peer-reviewed journals and give research presentations.
• Apply for third-party funding for your research.
• Prepare and complete a habilitation (if this is beneficial to your career)
• Contribute to teaching within the BA and MA philosophy programs by independently teaching courses to the extent you are required by the collective bargaining agreement.
• Supervise students in your areas of competence.
• Participate in evaluation measures and in quality assurance.
• Take on administrative and organizational tasks.
