University of Vienna invites applications for a PhD Position in Responsible AI. You will join the Responsible Machine Learning Group within the Faculty of Computer Science in Vienna, contributing to AI safety, data-centric AI, and scalable ML research.

The role targets candidates with a Masters in a quantitative field, strong ML skills, and a track record in research. The position spans up to 4 years with possibilities for progression and international exposure.

Qualifikationen

• Master’s degree (completed or near completion) in a quantitative field.
• Excellent command of written and spoken English.
• Strong programming skills in Python and ML frameworks.
• Early research track record (thesis, papers, or open-source).
• Experience training or fine-tuning large-scale models (LLMs, VLMs).
• Familiarity with distributed computing and Linux environments.

Aufgaben

• Develop ML methods and tools focused on data-centric AI, agentic AI, and explainability.
• Publish novel algorithms with theoretical guarantees for structured data.
• Pursue and complete a PhD thesis within 4 years.
• Join Vienna Doctoral School of Computer Science and formalise doctoral agreement.
• Present results at top conferences and journals, and support group operations.
• Teach courses and examinations under the collective bargaining provisions.
