Zusammenfassung

The Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) invites applications for a PhD Student in Radiochemistry to contribute to the chemistry of superheavy elements. You will develop new radiochemical methods and instrumentation and produce radioisotopes for testing ideas within PSI's world-class facilities.

You will collaborate internationally, analyze data to determine thermochemical properties of heavy elements and present results at conferences and in peer-reviewed journals.

Qualifikationen

  • Master's degree in Chemistry (preferably Physical Chemistry).
  • Applicants with a Master's degree in Physics are also encouraged to apply.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Team player with good written and spoken English skills.
  • Prior knowledge of radiochemistry is an advantage but not required.

Aufgaben

  • Develop new radiochemical methods and instrumentation for studies of superheavy elements
  • Produce radioisotopes of the lighter homologs of superheavy elements using PSI's large-scale research infrastructure to test and optimize your ideas
  • Perform innovative chemical experiments on superheavy elements at leading accelerator facilities worldwide as part of international collaborations
  • Analyze and interpret experimental data to determine thermochemical properties of the heaviest elements
  • Present your research at international conferences and publish your results in leading peer-reviewed scientific journals
