Zusammenfassung

The Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) in Switzerland invites applications for a PhD Student in High-Resolution Photon and Muon Timing. You will contribute to pushing time resolution at SμS and SLS, study ultrafast magnetization dynamics, and collaborate with the muon spectroscopy and X-ray microscopy teams.

You will develop waveform-based signal processing for detector timing, extend firmware and software for real-time readout, and pursue your PhD with enrollment at the University of Basel.

Qualifikationen

  • Master’s degree in physics, electrical engineering, computer engineering or a related discipline.
  • Strong interest in solid-state physics and modern digital instrumentation.
  • Experience in signal processing, data acquisition, detector instrumentation, embedded systems or RF electronics is an advantage.

Aufgaben

  • Push the time resolution of experiments at PSI’s muon source and beamlines beyond current limits.
  • Investigate ultrafast magnetization dynamics and coherent spin precession with beamtime experiments.
  • Prepare, perform and analyze experiments with close collaboration across teams.
  • Develop waveform-based signal-processing methods for real-time data acquisition.
  • Extend open-source firmware and software for real-time detector readout.
  • Pursue your PhD at PSI with enrollment at the University of Basel.
