The Paul Scherrer Institute invites applications for a PhD-level experimental physicist/engineer to install, operate, and maintain superconducting qubit control and measurement setups, including dilution refrigerators and microwave instrumentation.

You will contribute to nanofabrication for high-coherence qubits, supervise students, and collaborate with a vibrant quantum research community in a dynamic, interdisciplinary environment.

Your tasks

You will install, operate, and maintain state-of-the-art control and measurement setups for quantum information processing with superconducting circuits, including dilution refrigerators and microwave frequency instrumentation. In addition, you will maintain and further improve a nanofabrication process for high-coherence superconducting qubits in the PSI PICO cleanroom. While this is a technical position, participation in the projects of the host group, for instance through fabrication of test samples and qubit characterization experiments, will be strongly encouraged. You will have the opportunity to co-supervise Master and semester students and interact with a vibrant community of quantum researchers and technical experts.

Your profile

We are looking for someone with a PhD degree in physics or a relevant engineering degree. You should have prior experience with dilution refrigerators and nanofabrication as well as good communication and English language skills. The position requires a methodical approach to complex problems with many control parameters and will benefit from a strong motivation to learn about recent developments in nanofabrication of high-coherence superconducting circuit devices as well as control and measurement instrumentation. Good Python programming skills and a background in superconducting circuit experiments are considered a plus.
