Manager Portfolio Coaching – Information Services and Technology (IS&T)

Rio Tinto has established a new Information Services and Technology operating model, delivering value to our customers end to end while ensuring that our people have growth opportunities to develop within our organisation.

About the role

The Manager Portfolio Coaching is the chapter area lead for portfolio coaching is responsible for leading a team of Portfolio Coaches, ensuring consistency, growth, and alignment with organisational strategy. As our preferred applicant, you will drive excellence in Agile ways of working, portfolio-level agility, and business transformation across domains. The chapter lead nurtures the development of portfolio coaches, facilitates knowledge sharing, and promotes a strong coaching culture across the organisation.

Responsibilities

  1. Leadership & Development - Lead and develop a community of portfolio coaches by fostering a culture of learning, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  2. Coaching & Capability Building - Provide guidance, mentoring, and support to chapter members in both Agile methodologies and traditional delivery modes. Lean portfolio management, project/program, service management.
  3. Strategic Alignment - Ensure portfolio coaching practices align with organisational goals and strategic initiatives.
  4. Standardisation & Best Practices - Establish and promote coaching frameworks, best practices, and Agile governance models to enhance portfolio agility.
  5. Stakeholder Collaboration - Work closely with senior leadership, domain teams, and agile release trains to drive change and optimise value delivery.
  6. Continuous Improvement - Measure coaching impact, assess agile maturity, and drive initiatives to improve Agile adoption and effectiveness.

What you’ll bring

  1. Extensive experience in agile delivery, lean portfolio management and coaching at scale.
  2. Deep understanding of agile frameworks such as SAFe, Scrum, and Kanban.
  3. Strong leadership skills with the ability to develop and mentor coaching teams.
  4. Ability to influence and drive cultural and organisational change.
  5. Strong facilitation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  6. Experience in enterprise transformation and agile ways of working at portfolio level.
