As we continue to grow and expand our team we are seeking a highly motivated IT Applications Specialist/Manager to join our team, providing technical support and expertise for business-critical applications across GBS Australia & New Zealand.

About the Role:

The IT Applications Specialist is a newly created position responsible for providing technical support and expertise for business-critical applications at GBS Australia & New Zealand. This role involves troubleshooting application issues, assisting with application deployment and upgrades, and ensuring optimal performance and user satisfaction. The IT Applications Specialist will work closely with various stakeholders to understand their application needs and provide solutions that enhance business operations.

A key aspect of the role is accountability in managing the GBS AU application environment and liaising with central Gallagher IT departments for cyber security, end user compute and core infrastructure services.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Application Support and Maintenance:
    1. Oversee the day-to-day operations of application support, ensuring timely resolution of issues.
    2. Monitor application performance and implement improvements to enhance efficiency.
    3. Coordinate with IT teams to manage application upgrades, patches, and maintenance activities.
    4. Rationalisation of the application environment considering both GBS AU needs and GBS Technology’s global strategic application direction.
    5. Accountable in driving Applications Improvement - efficiency, standardisation, cost reduction etc.
  2. Stakeholder Collaboration:
    1. Work closely with business units to understand their application requirements and challenges.
    2. Communicate IT change programmes to the business units and communicate the business change programmes to IT to ensure alignment on application-related projects.
  3. Incident and Problem Management:
    1. Develop and implement incident management processes to minimize downtime and service disruptions.
    2. Analyze incident trends and implement proactive measures to prevent future occurrences.
  4. User Training & Documentation:
    1. Develop and deliver training for end-users to enhance their understanding and use of applications.
    2. Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for application processes and procedures.
  5. Manage relationships with third-party vendors and service providers.
  6. Negotiate contracts and service level agreements to ensure optimal service delivery.
  7. Responsible for managing the IT applications running costs and IT applications investment budget, liaising with GBS Finance as necessary.
  8. Project Management:
    1. Lead application-related projects, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget.
    2. Collaborate with project managers to align application support activities with project timelines.
    3. Identify opportunities for process improvements and application enhancements.
    4. Advise and influence the business on new & emerging technologies, trends, and the capability that IT can bring to the business units.
    5. Assess and present new GBS AU technologies that the business wish to adopt to the strategic architecture review board for consideration.
  9. Compliance and Security:
    1. Ensure all applications comply with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
    2. Work with the cybersecurity team to implement security measures and protect sensitive data.

Experience and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in IT application support or a related role.
  • Strong understanding of application lifecycle management and ITIL processes.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with project management methodologies is a plus.
  • Familiarity with financial services industry applications is preferred.
  • Proven track record of broad-based IT and application management.
  • Working knowledge of end user compute and core infrastructure architecture and components.
  • Experience with Power BI, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Microsoft Azure & SQL preferred.
