Silicon Austria Labs (SAL) in Graz is seeking a motivated PCB Design & Prototyping Intern to support electronic hardware prototyping for industrial MCUs used in HIL setups.

You will work with the engineering team on schematic design, PCB layout, prototype assembly, and testing/validation of circuits. A degree in Electrical Engineering or related fields is preferred, with hands-on PCB experience and familiarity with KiCad/Altium.

• Experience with PCB design software such as KiCad or Altium Designer, or equivalent EDA tools.
• Hands-on experience designing and creating PCBs in academic, personal, or internship projects.
• Understanding of schematic design principles and PCB layout fundamentals.

We are looking for a motivated and practical PCB Design & Prototyping Intern to assist with the development of electronic hardware prototypes, including interface and breakout boards for industrial microcontrollers (MCUs) used in hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) setups. You will work closely with our engineering team on schematic design, PCB layout, prototype assembly, and the testing and validation of electronic circuits.

Your future tasks include:

• Design electronic schematics and PCB layouts.
• Create multi-layer PCB designs that adhere to good engineering practices.
• Support component selection and footprint creation.
• Prepare manufacturing documentation and design files.
• Assemble, solder, and debug PCB prototypes.
• Perform electrical testing, verification, and troubleshooting.
• Document designs, test procedures, and results.

Your profile:

• Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics, Embedded Systems, or a related field.
• Experience with PCB design software such as:
  • KiCad
  • Altium Designer
  • or equivalent EDA tools.
• Practical experience designing and creating PCBs, either through academic projects, personal projects, internships, or professional work.
• Unnderstanding of schematic design principles and PCB layout fundamentals.
• Hands-on experience with PCB assembly, soldering, and debugging.

Nice-to-have skills:

• Experience programming industrial microcontrollers or embedded systems.
• Familiarity with C/C++ for embedded development.
• Familiarity with version control (e.g., Git).

This position is subject to the Collective Agreement for Employees in Non-University Research (Research Collective Agreement Section 19). The monthly gross salary for this position is € 1,461.00.
