About the role

The Group Quality Manager is responsible for ensuring the quality and safety of food products across multiple production sites and for the preservation of raw tree nut and fruit materials and processed goods in storage, transit and primary processing. Our sites are Bundaberg, Toowoomba (QLD) and Leeton in NSW. They will lead the development and implementation of quality management systems, monitor production processes, and ensure compliance with food safety standards, regulations, and customer requirements. This role is required to manage a team of quality assurance professionals, conducting audits, investigating complaints, provide technical decision support, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

Specifically, you will build the capability of all site quality teams and ensure that each of them can execute its requirements to meet the needs of the SW business.

Duties include but not limited to

  • Developing and Implementing Quality Management Systems: Creating and maintaining quality management systems (including HACCP, GMP, and other relevant standards) to ensure product safety and quality.
  • Monitoring Production Processes: Overseeing production processes at various sites throughout the entire supply chain to ensure adherence to quality standards, quality preservation and identify areas for improvement.
  • Ensuring Compliance: Ensuring that all products and processes comply with food safety regulations, customer specifications, and internal quality standards.
  • Managing Quality Teams: Leading and mentoring a team of quality assurance professionals, providing training, and fostering a culture of quality and food safety.
  • Reviewing internal and external audits to assess compliance and identify areas for improvement in quality and food safety practices across all sites in our supply chain.
  • Overseeing the Complaints and Non-Conformances: Reviewing investigations into customer complaints and non-conformances, identifying root causes, and implementing corrective and preventative actions.
  • Driving Continuous Improvement: Identifying opportunities to enhance quality and food safety performance, implementing changes, and monitoring their effectiveness.
  • Reporting and Communication: Providing regular reports on quality performance, communicating relevant trend information to management and stakeholders, and fostering a culture of transparency.
  • Managing Relationships: Building and maintaining strong relationships with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and customers to ensure alignment on quality expectations.
  • Staying Up-to-Date: Keeping abreast of changes in food safety regulations, industry best practices, and emerging technologies related to quality management.

Essential Criteria, Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in quality management within the food industry, including experience with relevant standards (e.g., BRCGS, HACCP, GMP, SQF, ISO).
  • Experience managing quality for whole of business, across multiple sites
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to food safety and quality.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to travel to sites.

What You Should Know About Our Operations

Our business is widespread, growing walnuts, almonds and bees in the Riverina Region in New South Wales, pecans in Moree and macadamias, avocados and mangoes in Bundaberg, Queensland.

Off the paddock, we operate nut processing and packing facilities in Leeton, Toowoomba and Bundaberg as well as fruit packing and processing in Bundaberg. In addition, our shared services teams (Finance, Sales, ESG, Safety and People & Culture) are located across all of our sites as well as the Brisbane, Melbourne and Griffith offices.
