Full Professor of Business Administration and Information Systems

WU is currently inviting applications for the position of a full professor of Betriebswirtschaftslehre und Wirtschaftsinformatik (Business Administration and Information Systems) with an emphasis on foundations for contemporary information systems at the Department of Information Systems and Operations Management. Candidates are expected to have established an international reputation as a researcher in their field. Depending on the candidate's academic credentials, the employment contract can be concluded either as a permanent employment contract or as a fixed-term employment contract with the option of a permanent extension.

The new professor will complement the existing profile of the Department of Information Systems and Operations Management and will contribute to research, teaching, and service activities.

The successful candidate is expected to have established an international reputation as a researcher in their field and to have outstanding qualifications. Candidates' qualifications will be assessed in the context of their academic age. Candidates must have:

  1. A solid academic qualification (e.g. PhD, habilitation) in Information Systems, Computer Science or a related area;
  2. An outstanding international reputation for high quality scholarship in foundations for contemporary information systems commensurate with academic age, especially by having demonstrated the ability to publish in top-tier journals in the field (e.g., journals listed in the WU's star journal list and the department's journal list);
  3. Excellent teaching qualifications at undergraduate and graduate levels as well as in executive education;

The successful candidate is expected to conduct and publish outstanding empirically grounded research in Information Systems with a focus on foundations for contemporary information systems. The candidate should be highly competent in applying the relevant descriptive and/or predictive and/or prescriptive methods to complement the current research profile of the institute. Ideally, the research expertise of the candidate complements the existing expertise and research areas of the department in areas such as:

  • AI Systems and Architectures
  • Data Mining and Machine Learning
  • Distributed Systems and Decentralization
  • Cloud and Virtualisation
  • IoT and Edge Computing
  • Data Governance for AI

The successful candidate is expected to engage in high quality teaching at WU at all levels (bachelor, MSc, doctorate and executive education) in particular to support our Bachelor’s Programs in Business, Economics, and Social Sciences as well as Business & Economics, and our Master of Science (MSc) Digital Economy. Full professors are expected to teach 8 weekly credit hours.

Teaching experience in English is required. Non-German-speaking candidates will be expected to acquire proficiency in German over a certain period of time.

We also expect the new professor to take an active role in the university's self-governance and third mission activities.
