The Opportunity

ISS is searching for an experienced and talented Head Chef to lead a high-performing, fast paced and dynamic kitchen operation in our Mining Villages in Central Queensland. This rare opportunity to be leading the kitchen brigade is on a 9 days on / 5 days off roster, or 2 weeks on /1 week off, giving you the balance to enjoy more of life outside of work.

Reporting to the Village Manager, showcase your culinary skills in a dynamic remote mining environment while providing leadership to the catering team, ensuring high-quality meals and a positive on-site dining experience for residents.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and inspire a dedicated kitchen team.
  • Oversee meal preparation, presentation, and service for a high-volume site.
  • Maintain excellent compliance with food safety, workplace health and safety, and hygiene standards.
  • Manage and improve ordering, stock levels, and kitchen costs within budget.
  • Collaborate with the Site Manager on tailored menu planning and customer experience improvements.
  • Mentor and train kitchen staff to maintain exceptional standards.

Qualifications
  • Proven professional work experience as a head chef for a minimum of 3 years.
  • FIFO Experience as a Head Chef or Senior Chef in a high-volume kitchen environment. (DESIRABLE)
  • Strong leadership and good communication skills.
  • Creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to work well under pressure.
  • Certificate III in Commercial Cookery (or higher certification).
  • Food Safety Supervisor Certificate, or willing to obtain.
  • Knowledge of food safety standards, HACCP and WHS requirements.
  • Must pass a full Pre-Employment Medical Assessment and Drug & Alcohol Screen.
  • Coal Board Medical and Standard 11 Certificate is highly desirable.
  • Valid National Police Clearance within 12 months.
  • Full Working rights in Australia.
