Holcim is seeking an Electrical and Automation Engineer based in Zug, Switzerland to deliver advanced engineering support for greenfield and brownfield plants across project phases. You will focus on CAPEX projects in cement and Geocycle operations and contribute to CCUS initiatives on a global scale.

Role Overview

Support the Holcim Group and provide advanced electrical and automation engineering support for greenfield and brownfield plants across all project phases (definition, planning, and execution) as our Electrical and Automation Engineer based in Zug Switzerland . This role focuses on industrial CAPEX projects in Cement and Geocycle operations globally as well as large-scale Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) initiatives

Main Responsibilities

Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)

Drive a strong safety culture across all engineering activities, integrating "Safety in Design" and "Safety in Construction" principles.

Ensure full compliance with Group HSE standards, security policies, and technical regulations across all assigned projects.

Develop robust, safe, and cost-effective electrical and automation engineering concepts for business cases, feasibility studies, and tender packages.

Analyse plant KPIs to assist CAPEX Project Managers in establishing accurate CAPEX/OPEX estimates and production targets.

Evaluate tender submissions to identify technically sound, commercially optimal solutions.

Detailed Engineering & Quality Control

Review detailed design documentation to ensure compliance with Group standards, safety requirements, maintainability, durability, and cost efficiency.

Oversee quality control, technical inspections, and execution of electrical and automation packages during project implementation.

Provide targeted, high-value technical support during the commissioning and performance-testing phases.

Supplier Management & Technical Governance

Qualify global suppliers for electrical systems, power distribution, and drive technologies, maintaining a strong understanding of market capabilities.

Develop and continuously refine standard design criteria, engineering tools (eDM, IBS), and technical best practices across the organization.

Represent the discipline in knowledge-sharing platforms and cross-functional technical roundtables.

Project & Stakeholder Management

Simultaneously manage electrical and automation deliverables across multiple concurrent projects based on priority.

Collaborate effectively within diverse, multicultural, and multidisciplinary engineering teams across international locations.

Your Profile

Education: University degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a closely related discipline.

Experience: Minimum 5 years of hands‑on experience in industrial CAPEX project engineering (Cement, Heavy Industry, or Process Engineering preferred).

Technical & Functional Skills

Deep knowledge of international electrical and automation engineering standards, tools, and methodologies.

Proven experience in large-scale CAPEX project execution, tender preparation, and vendor selection.

Familiarity with heavy process industries (e.g., Cement, Energy, Carbon Capture).

Technical Leadership: Ability to influence stakeholders and establish credibility through technical expertise rather than direct authority.

Adaptability & Resilience: Comfortable working autonomously, managing shifting priorities, and conducting site assessments in remote or challenging environments.

Communication & Negotiation: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to bridge complex technical details with commercial and operational teams across global sites.

Mindset: Highly analytical, rigorous, cost-conscious, and open to continuous improvement and technical innovation.

Languages & Mobility

Languages: Professional working proficiency in English (written and spoken) is required. Proficiency in additional core Group languages is a plus.

Mobility: Willingness to travel frequently to project locations, supplier facilities, and construction sites worldwide, including regions with basic infrastructure or remote conditions.
