Offer Description

The Academy of Fine Arts Vienna is advertising a university professorship at the Institute for Fine Arts in the field of “Art and Image | Figuration”. This is a full-time, one-year position starting on 15 September 2025.

We seek an internationally recognized artist with a distinguished reputation in the field of figurative painting and figuration, who is well-versed in current art discourses and methods, especially regarding (dis-)figuration and its social implications.

Conditions of Employment
  1. A relevant university or college degree or equivalent artistic aptitude.
  2. Recognition in the field of figurative painting, with a focus on social reality, non-artistic pictorial forms, or artistic intervention.
  3. A portfolio demonstrating exhibitions, projects, publications, etc., and a concept for the development of arts in “Art and Image | Figuration”.
  4. Ability to lead and organize teaching within the department.
  5. Capability to support and promote students artistically.
  6. An academic teaching concept outlining motivation, content, and pedagogical approach, along with teaching experience.
  7. Willingness to collaborate closely with colleagues and staff on study content and organization.
  8. Participation in university committees and engagement in interdisciplinary activities and projects.
  9. Proficiency in German and/or English.
  10. A commitment to anti-discrimination principles and continuous improvement of related skills.

The teaching load includes at least 17 hours of individual artistic lessons weekly in “Art and Image | Figuration”.

The gross monthly salary is approximately €6,604.30, according to the collective agreement for university employees (salary group A1).
