Microbiology Laboratory Manager
Are you an experienced microbiologist with a passion for quality and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards? Our warm and welcoming contract testing laboratory is seeking a full-time Microbiology Laboratory Manager to join our expanding team. In this role, you'll play a crucial part in building and upholding the integrity of our microbiology department, while contributing to a positive and collaborative work environment.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee, manage, and participate in all aspects of microbiology testing services, including product testing, environmental monitoring, method validation, reporting results, and writing reports, while ensuring strict adherence to current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and TGA/APVMA regulations.
- Lead microbiology process improvement initiatives.
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive standard operating procedures (SOPs), methods, and effective quality control measures to ensure accurate and reliable microbiology testing results. Perform method optimization to support client requirements and expectations.
- Lead and mentor a small dedicated team of microbiologists, providing technical guidance and training to support their growth and development.
- Build strong relationships with clients, regulatory authorities, and internal stakeholders, understanding their needs and delivering exceptional customer service.
- Evaluate and validate new testing methodologies, equipment, and technologies to enhance laboratory capabilities.
- Conduct root cause analyses and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to address deviations or quality issues.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, guidelines, and industry standards, maintaining accurate documentation and records.
- Participate in internal and external audits, inspections, and proficiency testing programs, demonstrating laboratory competency and commitment to quality.
- Manage laboratory resources efficiently while maintaining high quality standards and fostering an inclusive work environment.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Microbiology or related science.
- Strong understanding of regulatory guidelines and standards in the pharmaceutical or complementary medicines industry.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a microbiology laboratory.
- At least 2 years in a TGA/GMP laboratory.
- High proficiency in technical writing and procedure development.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask.
- Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
- Leadership or supervisory experience.
- Knowledge of probiotic testing, cleanroom requirements, and sterility testing is advantageous.
