The Position

Director of People and Culture

Work Type: Full-time (nominally 38 hours/week) – flexible arrangements negotiable

Tenure: Ongoing contract

Reporting to: Deputy Principal

Supervises: Payroll Coordinator and HR Administrative Staff

Note: If the successful candidate is also a teacher, tailored flexible arrangements may be negotiated (including a modest teaching load).

About the Role

Stuartholme School is seeking a strategic and people-focused Director of People and Culture to lead human resources, organisational culture, and staff wellbeing initiatives. This senior leadership role integrates traditional HR functions with a strong emphasis on values, inclusion, and employee experience. You will work with the Principal and Leadership Team to shape a high-performing, supportive workplace culture aligned with the School’s ethos and mission.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and implement a People and Culture strategy aligned with the School’s strategic plan
  • Advise on workforce planning, organisational design, wellbeing, and change management
  • Lead data-informed workforce initiatives
  • Promote a positive, inclusive, and values-led workplace culture

Human Resource Management

  • Manage the full employee lifecycle: recruitment, onboarding, development, performance, and exit
  • Ensure HR practices reflect safeguarding standards and ethical employment principles
  • Collaborate on induction and professional learning programs
  • Support leaders in managing staff performance and growth

Employee Relations, Compliance and Risk

  • Ensure compliance with awards, agreements, legislation, and policies
  • Manage employee relations, dispute resolution, and disciplinary processes
  • Work with the Manager - Risk and Compliance to maintain governance policies and procedures
  • Monitor legal and industrial changes, WHS, and psychosocial risk obligations

Talent Management and Succession Planning

  • Conduct talent and succession reviews with leadership
  • Support identification and development of key talent
  • Advise on workforce sustainability
  • Promote career development and leadership pathways
About You

You are an experienced HR leader who thrives in purpose-driven environments. You bring:

  • Proven experience in strategic HR leadership
  • Strong understanding of organisational culture and employee wellbeing
  • Ability to embed values into people practices and policies
  • Excellent interpersonal, coaching, and leadership skills
  • Experience in education or community-focused organisations (desirable)
  • Registered teachers are welcome to apply and provision for maintaining teacher registration can be supported
