About EPA

The Environment Protection Authority (EPA) is South Australia’s independent environment protection regulator. We protect, restore and enhance the environment through the risk-based regulation of pollution, waste, noise and radiation. We work closely with industry, the community and government to protect our unique natural environment while supporting economic growth and improving wellbeing. We license around 1,500 businesses in South Australia. Licences set out environmental standards and conditions that those businesses must meet. We also license 4,500 operators of equipment that produces radiation. As a regulatory body, we set and enforce standards and requirements that industries, companies and even individuals must meet. We encourage and support businesses, industry, local government and the community in their efforts to prevent pollution; adopt clean production and technologies; reduce, reuse and recycle materials and natural resources; and minimise waste.
