Job summary

Oyster is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to build and scale core infrastructure supporting rapid growth. You will design reliable platform services, manage AWS and Kubernetes resources, and work with service mesh technologies to keep systems performant and secure.

You will collaborate with leadership to align on architecture, tooling, and delivery, embracing distributed design and AI-native development practices to drive efficiency and reliability.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of server development in Python or TypeScript.
• 3+ years of API design and development (REST/gRPC).
• 2+ years on AWS and Kubernetes with service mesh experience.
• 2+ years building distributed system components (service registry, streaming, caching, persistence).
• 6+ months of experience with LLMs, prompt engineering or AIOps tooling.
• 6+ months of SDLC AI-native usage (Claude Code/Claude Cowork).
• Excellent communication, quick learner, strong ownership mindset.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable platform services to support growth.
• Monitor, optimize performance, identify bottlenecks, implement infra improvements.
• Manage cloud resources and service boundaries, ensuring security and reliability.

ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for a Senior Platform Engineer to build and scale core infrastructure that supports rapid company growth. This person designs reliable platform services, manages cloud resources on AWS and Kubernetes, and works with service mesh technologies to keep systems performant and secure. Comfort with distributed architecture and AI-native development tooling rounds out the role.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Design, build, and maintain scalable and reliable platform services to support company growth.
• Measure, monitor, and optimize system performance, identifying bottlenecks and implementing infrastructure-level improvements.
• Manage cloud resources and service boundaries, ensuring security and operational excellence.
• Implement best practices, methodologies, and tools to optimize the development process and increase efficiency.
• Communicate effectively with stakeholders, including senior leadership, to provide updates on project status, risks, and issues.

MUST HAVES

• 4+ years of server development in Python or TypeScript.
• 3+ years of experience with API design and development, including REST/gRPC.
• 2+ years of experience with AWS and Kubernetes, with experience in Service Mesh technologies such as Istio, Linkerd, Cilium, etc.
• 2+ years of experience building advanced architectural components such as service registry, streaming, event bus, distributed caching, federated/polyglot persistence, etc.
• 6+ months of experience working with LLMs, prompt engineering, harness engineering, or AIOps tooling.
• 6+ months of SDLC AI-native usage via Claude Code, Claude Cowork, or similar.
• Excellent communication skills, the ability to learn on the fly, and a desire for ownership.
