Job summary

AgileEngine is seeking a Backend Software Engineer to build and maintain PHP-based systems powering distributed services. You will apply OOP and system design to keep APIs secure, scalable, and performant, with a hands-on approach focused on clean code and solid engineering fundamentals.

The role involves developing backend systems, APIs, and integrations, contributing to microservices, and implementing secure authentication mechanisms.

Qualifications

• Must have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain backend systems, APIs, and integrations powering company products and distributed services.
• Contribute to distributed systems and microservices to support scalability and reliability.
• Apply OOP principles and solid architectural patterns for extensibility and maintainability.
• Implement and maintain secure authentication and authorization (OAuth2, JWT, RBAC).
• Optimize performance through data structures, caching, and profiling across environments.
• Debug, profile, and tune performance in multiple environments and services.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, Architects, QA, and Support to gather requirements and deliver scope.
• Participate in QA/QE testing strategies to ensure coverage of new and existing functionality.
• Follow code quality, security, and scalability standards across the lifecycle.
• Support peer code reviews and knowledge sharing.
• Maintain API specifications and implementation notes.
• Engage in engineering reviews, sprints, and cross-team demos to align on progress.
• Ensure compliance with open-source usage and third-party dependencies.
