Job summary

Prometeo Talent is partnering with a fast-growing US-based cybersecurity startup to hire a Senior Backend Engineer who thrives in startups and enjoys building scalable systems.

You will design, build, and maintain distributed services using Java and Python, with AI-assisted development and ownership of features from design to production.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering or backend development.
• At least 5 years of professional Python experience building production-grade backends.
• Strong Java experience.
• Hands-on AI/LLM-based application development experience.
• Experience with AI-driven features, LLM integrations, or agentic workflows.
• Knowledge of distributed systems, scalable architectures, and asynchronous processing.
• Experience with databases, message queues, and data processing pipelines.
• Hands-on Docker and Kubernetes in production.
• Strong ownership, autonomy, and ability to thrive in startup environments.
• Advanced English level.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer who thrives in startup environments and enjoys building scalable systems from the ground up.

This role is ideal for engineers who combine deep backend expertise with a strong ownership mindset. You will play a key role in designing, building, and maintaining distributed systems while collaborating with a highly technical and fast-moving team.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience with Java and Python, enjoys solving complex engineering problems, and embraces AI-assisted development workflows to increase productivity without compromising quality.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in software engineering or backend development.
• 5+ professional experience with Python, building and maintaining production-grade backend systems.
• Strong experience with Java.
• Hands-on experience with AI/LLM-based application development (AI agents, agentic systems, or LLM-powered applications)
• Experience building AI-driven features, LLM integrations, or agentic workflows in production environments is highly preferred.
• Solid understanding of distributed systems, scalable architectures, and asynchronous processing.
• Experience working with databases, message queues, and data processing pipelines.
• Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes in production environments.
• Proven experience building, maintaining, optimizing, and improving products after launch.
• Strong ownership mindset, autonomy, and ability to thrive in startup or fast-paced environments.
• Advanced English level

Nice to have

• Experience working in product-focused companies, owning products beyond the initial development phase.
• Experience in cybersecurity products or security-focused platforms.
• Experience with Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar messaging systems.
• Experience building large-scale distributed data processing systems.
• Background in high-growth startups or scale-ups.
• Previous experience in large technology companies
