Job summary

SCALEUP is seeking a Backend Engineer to design, build, and maintain scalable backend systems that support AI and GenAI solutions for enterprise customers. Strong Python backend development experience is essential for solving complex problems.

You will own backend architecture from API design to deployment, monitoring, and long-term maintenance. The role is 100% remote for Argentina-based candidates as a full-time contractor.

Qualifications

• Strong professional experience with Python backend development.
• Experience with FastAPI, Flask, or Django.
• Experience designing scalable APIs and backend services.
• Exposure to AI/ML or GenAI applications, including model integrations, vector databases, embeddings, or document-processing systems.
• Hands-on experience with AWS services.
• Experience with Docker and modern deployment pipelines.
• Familiarity with distributed systems, asynchronous processing, and service-to-service communication.
• Understanding of functional programming concepts and maintainable software design.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
• Professional-level English communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Build scalable backend systems using Python and frameworks like FastAPI, Flask, or Django.
• Develop services for document retrieval, processing pipelines, and AI/GenAI workflows.
• Design APIs connecting AI models, vector databases, embeddings, and other systems.
• Build reusable Python components that integrate with AWS services.
• Work with containers, asynchronous processing, and distributed systems.
• Implement logging, metrics, tracing, and internal tools for reliability.
• Write clean, testable code while separating business logic from infrastructure.
• Take ownership of backend systems and decisions end-to-end.
