Athletic Coaching Requirements

• All head coaches must have a minimum of 2 years of experience as a high school head coach.
• Must have a valid CPR card from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
• All head or assistant coaches, paid or volunteer, must complete NFHS First Aid, Health and Safety for Coaches course.
• All head or assistant coaches, paid or volunteer, must complete NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching course.
• All head or assistant coaches, paid or volunteer, must complete NFHS Concussion in Sports course.
• All head or assistant coaches, paid or volunteer, must complete NFHS Heat Illness Prevention course.
• All head coaches must have a valid Arizona Coaching Certificate or complete NFHS Level 1 Certification by taking an NFHS Sport Specific Course or Teaching Sports Skills course (along with other mandated courses).
• NFHS Sport Specific Courses offered include: Basketball, Volleyball, Football, Wrestling, Baseball, Softball, Track & Field, Soccer, AACCA Spirit Safety.
• Spirit line coaches (upon hiring) are required to have a current AACCA Spirit Safety Certification and attend an NFHS Spirit Rules course each year through the A.I.A.
• The NFHS courses can be found at www.nfhslearn.org.
• Each course may have a separate fee and must be paid at the time of taking the specific course. Once an applicant has taken and passed the courses, they must provide a copy of the certificates upon submission of the application.
