The Opportunity
The Director, Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) – Retirement & Income Solutions is responsible for bringing together financial insights, forecasts, and key earnings drivers to provide a clear and actionable view of performance for MetLife’s Retirement & Income Solutions (RIS) business.
Guided by our purpose, always with you, building a more confident future, and our New Frontier strategy focused on stronger growth, attractive returns and all-weather performance, this is an exciting opportunity to serve as a senior finance partner to the RIS CFO organization while working within the broader U.S. FP&A team.
The role combines strategic financial analysis and senior leadership exposure with a strong technology-first mindset. The Director will help transform FP&A processes using automation, advanced analytics, and AI, while leading a cross-geography team and partnering across Finance, Investments, Actuarial, and the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development of the monthly and quarterly RIS financial story, connecting key earnings drivers including spread income, NII, liability balances, Sales and PFOs, VNB and Capital Deployed with risks, opportunities, and outlook.
- Partner with the RIS CFO, product analysts, and business finance teams to consolidate results and forecasts, challenge assumptions, and translate complex financial movements into clear, decision-ready insights.
- Analyze the earnings impact of large Pension Risk Transfer (PRT) transactions, interest rates, and credit spreads, coordinating inputs across Investments, Actuarial, and other key partners.
- Drive a technology-first approach to FP&A, leveraging tools such as Power BI, Alteryx, Power Automate, and AI to improve processes, automate reporting, and deliver incremental value to RIS Finance.
- Develop more standardized and scalable FP&A processes across RIS Finance, reducing manual effort and strengthening the quality and consistency of analytics.
- Create and contribute to senior-level financial presentations and materials, including QFS and DBR, while identifying opportunities to automate their production.
- Coordinate with peers across U.S. FP&A, Group Benefits, RIS, and MetLife Holdings to support enterprise forecasting, reporting, and analytics objectives.
- Support strategic initiatives, including business optimization and M&A, through targeted financial analysis, modeling, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Lead and develop a cross-geography team of analysts, building a collaborative, analytically rigorous, and technology-forward culture.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in financial planning, forecasting, financial analysis, or related Finance disciplines, preferably within insurance or financial services.
- Strong understanding of GAAP financials and financial performance drivers within a complex business environment.
- 3+ years of experience driving technology adoption or transformation within financial processes, with the ability to align business processes with technology solutions.
- Demonstrated interest and hands‑on mindset toward AI experimentation and enablement within Finance.
- Proven ability to lead complex financial analyses, manage multiple priorities independently, and translate results into actionable insights.
- Experience partnering with senior Finance and business leaders and communicating complex financial concepts to executive audiences.
- Advanced analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop teams across geographies.
Preferred Qualifications
- MBA, advanced degree, CPA, or similar professional certification.
- Experience working within an enterprise FP&A organization.
- Exposure to spread-based businesses, such as annuities, Pension Risk Transfer (PRT), or stable value, including an understanding of NII and spread income drivers.
- Hands‑on experience with Power BI, Alteryx, Power Automate, or similar analytics and automation technologies.
- Experience driving process-to-platform transformation, using technology, automation, and AI to modernize Finance processes.
