Distillery is seeking a Lead SQL Server Database Architect to own the technical direction of our client's SQL Server platform, shaping modern data warehousing and AI readiness.

You will guide architecture decisions, drive performance security standards, and mentor DBAs while pushing a modernization roadmap from on‑prem to cloud and ELT pipelines.

Formación

• Deep production SQL Server experience with tuning, indexing, HA/DR.
• Strong data architecture and dimensional modeling background.
• Experience modernizing a legacy estate, not only operating one.
• Familiarity with cloud data platforms and evaluating fit.
• CI/CD experience for database changes.
• Excellent communication and influencing without authority.

Responsabilidades

• Own the platform's technical direction, data modeling standards, and schema governance; document architecture decisions with trade-offs.
• Set and enforce standards for performance, reliability, and security.
• Lead the shift from on-prem operations to modern data warehousing, ELT pipelines, and data cataloging.
• Own the modernization roadmap end to end.
• Prepare the platform for AI and ML workloads with governed data and access controls.
• Continuously assess the estate for capacity, performance, and security risk.
• Provide unprompted updates on platform health and initiative progress.
• Mentor DBAs and share knowledge to avoid single points of failure.

About the Position

We are seeking a Lead SQL Server Database Architect to own the technical direction of our client's SQL Server platform, a stable, production-grade estate that now needs someone to drive its evolution toward modern data warehousing and AI-readiness.

Responsibilities

• Own the platform's technical direction, data modeling standards, and schema governance; make and document architecture decisions with their trade-offs
• Set and enforce standards for performance, reliability, and security
• Lead the shift from on-prem operations to modern data warehousing, dimensional modeling, ELT pipelines, layered raw/curated/semantic architecture, version control and CI/CD for database code, and data lineage and cataloging
• Own the modernization roadmap end to end
• Prepare the platform for AI and ML workloads through clean, governed, accessible data; define governance for access control, sensitive data, and auditability
• Continuously assess the estate for capacity, performance, technical debt, and security risk, and raise findings early with a recommended course of action
• Provide unprompted updates on platform health and initiative progress
• Mentor DBAs on technical depth and on the habit of surfacing problems early; document knowledge so expertise is shared, not concentrated

Requirements

• Deep production SQL Server experience (tuning, indexing, HA/DR)
• Strong data architecture and dimensional modeling background, with demonstrated experience modernizing a legacy estate (not just operating one)
• Working knowledge of cloud data platforms (Azure Synapse, Fabric, Snowflake, Databricks) and the judgment to assess fit rather than assume it
• Familiarity with what "AI-ready" actually demands of a data platform
• CI/CD experience for database changesTrack record of driving initiatives from proposal through delivery with measurable outcomes
• Demonstrated ability to upscale risk before impact
• Excellent communication that adapts depth to the audience; experience influencing without direct authority and holding a technical position under pressure
