Hy-Vee, Inc. is seeking a Checker to join our Grocery department. You will operate the register, assist customers throughout the store, and help ensure every visit ends on a great note.

This hourly role requires friendly service, accuracy with cash handling, and adherence to store policies. Training is provided, with a wage range of about $15.00–$18.75 per hour depending on experience and location.

Responsabilidades

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service by greeting customers with a smile and making every visit great.
• Operate the cash register accurately and process all payment types including cash, checks, cards, coupons, and programs.
• Count back change, issue receipts, and provide refunds or credits as needed.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines for WIC, food stamps, tobacco, liquor, and lottery tickets.
• Bag merchandise, assist courtesy personnel, and support drive-up and carry-out service.
• Stay knowledgeable of PLU numbers, department numbers, and weekly ad price changes.
• Stock, face, rotate merchandise, and maintain clean shelves and shelves tags.
• Keep the register area clean and report cash discrepancies.
• Verify balances at the start and end of shifts where applicable.
• Communicate questions clearly via intercom or phone and follow up with appropriate staff.
• Maintain store safety and security awareness and assist in promotions and events as needed.
• Take on special projects and other areas of the store as assigned.
• Adhere to personal hygiene, dress standards, and Hy-Vee policies.
• Report to work as scheduled and on time.

What You'll Do

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service by greeting customers with a smile, learning their names, and going out of your way to make every visit a great one
• Operate the cash register accurately, scanning product and processing all payment types including cash, checks, credit cards, coupons, food stamps, WIC checks, rain checks, in-store charges, and lottery transactions
• Count back change, issue receipts, and provide cash refunds or credit memorandums for returned merchandise as needed
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines regarding WIC, food stamps, and the sale of tobacco, liquor, and lottery tickets
• Place merchandise in bags or boxes, assist courtesy personnel, and support drive-up and carry-out service
• Stay knowledgeable of item look-up numbers, department numbers, item features, and weekly ad price changes and sale items
• Stock, face, and rotate merchandise, clean shelves, understand shelf tags, and take customers to items when requested
• Keep the register area clean, ensure adequate supplies are available, and report improper cash levels in the cash drawer
• Verify register balances at the beginning and end of each shift where applicable
• Communicate clearly on the intercom or telephone and answer customer questions, following up with appropriate personnel as needed
• Stay aware of your surroundings to support store safety and security
• Assist store management with displays and decorations for special promotions and events as needed
• Assist in other areas of the store as needed and take on special projects as assigned
• Maintain strict adherence to personal hygiene, dress standards, and all Hy-Vee policies and store guidelines
• Report to work when scheduled and on time

Reporting Relationships

Accountable and Reports to: Store Director; Store Manager; Assistant Managers of HWH, Perishables, and Store Operations; Service Managers

Education and Experience

• No education or experience requirements; we will provide all the training you need to succeed

Physical Requirements

• Frequently stand and walk throughout a shift in sales, food service, or delivery areas
• Where applicable to the role: ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparation
• Where applicable to the role: exposure to heat- and burn-related hazards associated with cooking, baking, or grilling equipment
• Where applicable to the role: ability to operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standards
• Perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning/sanitation duties
• This is a fast-paced role in a retail store environment where you will be on your feet throughout your shift. You will have frequent exposure to temperature extremes and possible dampness, as well as occasional exposure to equipment movement hazards and cleaning chemicals or solvents. Safety is always a priority, and training is provided to help ensure a safe and supportive work environment.

The anticipated hourly starting wage for this position is $15.00 to $18.75 depending on experience.

Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre employment drug screen.
