This is a full-time on-site role for Zoo Elephant Care Team Member for our esteemed client in United Arab Emirates. We are seeking a dedicated and experienced individual to join our Elephant Care Team. The ideal candidate will have at least two years of hands-on experience in training elephants in a protected contact setting and possess a strong understanding of elephant behavior, welfare, and modern management practices.
As a member of the Elephant Care Team, you will work within a large team to provide optimal standards of care to a multi-generational African Elephant herd to ensure their health, safety, and well-being. You will contribute to their health care access through daily positive reinforcement training in a Protected Contact program and daily habitat maintenance and management.

Job Responsibilities:
- Elephant Training: Use positive reinforcement methods to train elephants in Protected Contact, focusing on behaviors that promote safe access for the provision of healthcare.
- Daily Care: Assist with routine elephant care, including feeding, cleaning, and maintenance and management of an extensive indoor and outdoor elephant habitat.
- Behavioral Monitoring: Observe and report on elephant behaviors, noting any changes or concerns that may require intervention or further attention.
- Habitat Enhancement and Enrichment Activities: Plan and implement daily activities to provide both cognitive and physical stimulation for all members of the elephant herd.
- Health and Wellness: Work with the veterinary team to monitor and care for the elephants' physical and mental health, including administering medication when needed.
- Training Program Development: Contribute to the development and refinement of training protocols and ensure they align with international best practices for elephant care.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with other team members to ensure coordinated care and consistent training strategies.
- Safety: Follow all safety protocols for both the elephants and team members while working in proximity to elephants.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of elephant behavior, health, training progress, and any incidents or concerns.
Education:
Appropriate third-level diploma or equivalent in zoo animal management; formal training in elephant behavior or zoo management is a plus.
Required Skills:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in training elephants in a protected contact environment.
- Proficient in the use of positive reinforcement techniques and behavioral shaping methods for elephant training.
- Ability to assess and respond to elephant behaviors in a safe and effective manner.
- Strong understanding of elephant physiology, behavior, and wellness needs.
- Experience working with veterinary teams for health monitoring and care.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to maintain clear records and collaborate with team members.
- Physical Demands: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, and working in hot conditions.
- Team Player: Ability to work well in a collaborative environment, while maintaining a high level of professionalism and responsibility.
