Job description

We are seeking an experienced Workshop Technician to join our Howden Middle East team in Dubai. This Technician will perform workshop activities such as refurbishment of Reciprocating compressor components like valves, packing cases etc along with operating general machinery like lathe, drilling machine, grinding machine independently and dismantling, cleaning, inspection and assembling of Screw Compressors, Steam turbines d lapping machine, under supervision

What Will You Do?

• Maintain Health and Safety on all sites as per Howden and end user’s standards
• Ability to interpret and understand drawings, manuals etc related to all types of compressors, turbines and blowers.
• Refurbishment of Reciprocating Compressor components received at workshop like valves, packing cases liner replacement as per Howden Standard.
• Machining to operate lathe, milling, grinding, drilling, lapping machines and hydraulic press.
• Meet production goals relating to efficiency, schedules and scrap and rework.
• Verify the quality of finished work using precision measurement tools, demonstrating an in-depth understanding of specification and workmanship.
• Make machine and tooling changes, adjustments and calibration necessary to maintain required tolerances.
• Maintain a safe workplace by wearing PPE, following procedures and rules, completing training and challenging peers on their adoption of H&S procedures in the workshop.
• Clean and maintain machines and tools and keep an organized workspace.
• Maintaining of workshop equipment like lathe, milling and drilling machines with regular inspections before and after use and daily preventive maintenance of the equipment.
• Assist in service / repair on rotational equipment under supervision.
• Carryout service / repair on multi-brand Screw compressors, both oil injected and oil free which includes dismantling, cleaning, inspection and assembly under supervision in workshop.
• Submit the final repair report to workshop supervisor for review and corrections
• Analyse specifications, set-up, operate and maintain manual, Semi-automatic and CNC machines.
• Support in calibration of measuring instruments with relevant vendors and bookkeeping records.
• Support in Inspection of lifting accessories as per Howden standard.
• Assist Logistics team for re-labelling of spares as in required and in unloading / loading spar
• Perform other duties as required.

Your Physical Work Environment Will Require…

• Standing for a long time required repetitive arm motions and frequent lifting of 10 Kg, with occasional lifting of up to 20 kg.
• Working in a workshop under the shade.
• Local and overseas travel as required
• Basic working knowledge of hand tools i.e. : end wrenches, socket set, machining knowledge

Your Experience Should Be...

• Trade tested as a Turner (manual)or CNC Machinist
• Diploma or Technical Vocation Certification or related field.
• 5-8 years’ experience in machining procedures and techniques of rotating equipment components
• Experience in using and / or programming(preferred) manual, semi-automated or automated tools and machines (lathes, grinders, etc.)
• Ability to use precision tools (e.g., calipers, mics) to take accurate measurements
• Ability to read blueprints, schematics and manuals
• Knowledge of metal properties and other materials
• Able to read and understand technical information to produce the parts required from engineering drawings.
• Knowledge of turbo machinery, compressors, turbine rotors and fans.
• Must be customer service orientated
• Must be computer literate, including Word and Excel.
• Available to work overtime
• Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
