Directorate: Registry and Academic Support

About our School/Directorate and Team: The Global Registry and Academic Support Directorate supports students and staff across the full student life-cycle from enrolment to graduation. It manages student information, programme and course details, and provides support and wellbeing services.

The Directorate supports academic and professional services staff in areas including regulations, policies, and quality matters. It is divided into five divisions, each managed by a Global Head or Campus Head, including Student Life, Online Students, Academic Operations, Academic Quality, and Policy.

The Student Life Division in Dubai includes key areas such as:

  • Student Service Centre: A single point of access for students, delivering face-to-face and virtual services.
  • Student Records: Managing student records and transactions.
  • Wellbeing: Providing services supporting mental health, support for students of determination, and retention activities.
  • Careers Service: Offering career and employability advice, working with employers and schools.
  • Student Engagement: Supporting student councils and extracurricular activities.
Purpose of Role

The role of the Mental Health Mentor is to provide advice, information, and support to undergraduate and postgraduate students, addressing mental health difficulties and supporting their academic success and wellbeing.

The mentor will assess student needs, deliver ongoing support, develop support plans, provide therapeutic support, and liaise with external agencies. The role involves managing a caseload of students requiring ongoing support, including interventions such as mentoring, developing support strategies, and crisis management. There are currently no line management responsibilities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assess individual support needs and coordinate support with university and external services.
  • Provide support to students with mental health issues to manage their condition and realize their potential.
  • Develop bespoke strategies for independent study, time management, and motivation.
  • Support students experiencing mental health difficulties, including risk assessment and management.
  • Work with colleagues to ensure a holistic approach and raise awareness of available support.
  • Provide group support and maintain confidential records.
  • Communicate effectively with a range of audiences.
  • Lead initiatives to promote mental health and disability inclusion.
  • Support students returning from suspension due to mental health crises.
  • Provide crisis response and out-of-hours support as needed.
Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • Undergraduate Degree in a mental health-related field (e.g., Psychology, Counselling, Social Work, Nursing).
  • Postgraduate qualification preferred (Masters or Postgraduate Diploma).
  • 35+ years of experience in a mental health role, preferably in education or youth settings.
  • Experience in mental health assessments, interventions, support planning, risk assessment, and external referrals.
