Job summary

A leading engineering company in Dubai is seeking a Welding Engineer responsible for developing project welding procedures and maintaining the welder qualification program. The ideal candidate has a BS degree in related fields and over 3 years of experience in the welding and metallurgy aspects of the fabrication and construction industry. This role requires strong technical knowledge and the ability to supervise training and development in welding practices.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years in Welding/Metallurgy for Fabrication and construction Industry.
• Ability to develop project-specific Welding Qualification Execution plans.
• Experience with manual and automatic welding systems.

Responsibilities

• Review customer drawings/specifications and determine necessary WPS/PQR.
• Qualify welding procedures and welder qualifications.
• Supervise and monitor work at the metallurgical laboratory.

Job Overview:

Responsible for the development of project welding procedures that comply with the applicable Design, Engineering and Construction Codes, Standards and Project specifications. Responsible for maintaining the project welder qualification program. Liaise with Welding School Supervisor, Production Supervisor, Certifying Authority

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications and Education:

• 4 year BS Degree in Welding Engg / Metallurgical Engineering / Mechanical Engg
• 3+ years in Welding / Metallurgy aspects for Fabrication and construction Industry.

Preferred Qualifications and Education:

• Welding Technology
• Understanding of NDT techniques
• Inspection Qualification.

Responsibilities

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

• Review customer drawings / specifications for material and welding requirements to determine the necessary WPS /PQR required assuring the integrity of the weldment.
  • Select the electrode / consumables and estimate quantities required for project.
  • Source materials required for WPS/PQR's
  • Determine Joint Design
  • Optimize Welding Process
  • Apply code and specification requirements to the proposed WPS
  • Develop project and task specific Welding Qualification Execution plans
  • Submittal of WPS PQR packages for the project
  • Tool box talks and conducting Welding kick-offs'
• Qualify welding procedures and welder qualifications through execution of the welding plan.
  • Supervise PQR’s on site and witness tests at laboratory.
  • Prepare weld procedure specification.
  • Review welder qualification tests and approves documentations
• Assess quantity of production weld testing required and ensures their timely performance and testing.
  Consult with customer’s engineers and Production Supervisor on metallurgical and welding problems to determine or
  implement resolution.
• Assist in development of automatic welding systems and new methodology (for AWS Engineer)
• Supervise / monitor work at the metallurgical laboratory.
