Job Description

This is a lead corporate tax Markets advisory and technical role requiring the Job holder to oversee the Group’s live market transactions. The role is pivotal in providing support to all Markets businesses including but not limited to Global Markets, Global Corporate Finance, Global Transaction Banking, Secured Products and Investment Group as well as Group private banking. To be a single point of contact in advising Investment businesses including Group M&A transactions. To plan, lead, and ensure the Bank and its businesses are protected on all Tax risks in the Markets within the bank’s risk appetite in all the tax jurisdictions in which the Group operates in accordance with relevant Tax Regulations. To prepare controls and processes in mitigation of tax risks and optimizing tax efficiencies. To assist the Group Head of Taxation on Global Markets and Investment Banking purview, and ad-hoc projects as requested.

Key Accountabilities
  1. Manage all Markets & Investments businesses tax advisory in accordance with the wider Group Risk and Tax policies and within the bank’s risk appetite.
  2. Oversee and review transactions for Tax analysis in all countries where the Group operates to ensure appropriate compliance with tax laws.
  3. Update Advisory Tax governance policies and procedures manual.
  4. Keep up to date with changing and new Tax regulations.
  5. Take ownership and substantiation of all tax advisory transactions documentation for all Global markets and Investment Banking businesses.
  6. Deal with external consultants / advisors wherever required.
  7. Address Tax authority enquiries as required on a timely basis.
Specific Accountability
  1. Responsibility for advising on Global Markets and Investment Banking transactions for all entities of the FAB Group operating through branches, subsidiaries and representative offices.
  2. Keeping up to date with Tax regulation changes and continually assessing the Group’s corporate tax profile.
  3. Working and interacting directly with the Global businesses and finance teams by providing valuable tax input into all transactions / products.
  4. Collaborating with the Financial reporting team to ensure adequate disclosures of all advisory tax data.
  5. Monitoring tax advice and compliance with local tax laws, providing oversight with expert analysis and decision support.
  6. Periodically reviewing and updating Advisory Tax policies and procedures within sufficient risk parameters.
  7. Working with appropriate Group personnel and external advisers to ensure sufficiency of tax advisory.
  8. Resolving any direct / corporation tax matters as introduced in the GCC, and overseeing those in international locations e.g. Asia.
Qualifications
  1. First and Second Degree required.
  2. CPA / ACA or equivalent Accounting / Tax professional qualification required.
  3. 10+ years Taxation experience across technical disciplines of Corporation tax, international tax, and Market transactional level advisory.
  4. 6+ years in Banks & Capital Markets or Financial Services experience.
  5. Must have worked in more than two countries / continents.
  6. Proven ability in managing stakeholders across jurisdictions.
  7. Good knowledge of accounting ledger / systems e.g. Oracle, SAP etc.
  8. Good knowledge of Tax IT systems and use of bank source systems.
  9. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  10. Self-starter and highly motivated.
  11. Ability to handle pressure and tight timeframes.
  12. Ability to work in an unstructured environment and respect different ethnicities.
  13. Negotiation skills.
  14. Able to record issues and propose solutions.
