Job summary

EMIRATES GLOBAL ALUMINIUM (EGA) in Abu Dhabi is seeking a Potroom Operator trainee to assist the PTM operator. You will help change anodes safely, monitor pot voltage and support equipment operation in the potline. This role requires physical fitness and adherence to safety procedures on shift work.

The job emphasizes 5S housekeeping, hazard spotting, and reporting to reduce incidents and emissions, with training available on Pot Tending Machines and anode beam raising equipment.

Qualifications

• Secondary School Certificate is required.
• One year of experience in heavy industry preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist the PTM operator in changing anodes safely and to standard by removing and replacing back pot shields.
• Monitor pot voltage and operate anode set logic per procedure.
• Prepare the tapping hole prior to metal tapping.
• Skim the crucible to remove dross and sample metal and bath for quality control purposes.
• Assist cell operators in housekeeping, bathtapping, pouring, material addition, pot skimming and redressing.
• Help with gutter and basement cleaning and ensure pot shields and doors are closed to reduce HF emissions.
• Maintain 5S standards and report hazards to reduce incident frequency; contribute to zero LTIs.

Job description

Responsibilities

Assists the PTM operator in changing anodes safely and to the required standard by removing and replacing back pot shields, transferring anode reference mark, monitoring the pot voltage, activating deactivating the anode set logic and anode dressing. Assists and ensures that pot beam raising operation is performed as per procedure and in a safe manner. Prepares the tapping hole prior to metal tapping. Skims the crucible to remove dross. Performs metal and bath sampling for quality and chemistry control purposes. Assists the cell operator and assistant cell operator in miscellaneous activities like housekeeping, bathtapping, pouring, material addition to pots, pot skimming and pot redressing. Assists in gutter and basement cleaning. Attends PTM Pot Tending Machine on‑job training if required. Cleans crucible and siphon tips. Attends anode effects efficiently aimed at lower PFC emissions. Performs all other operational work activities as deemed necessary by the Shift‑Supervisor for example cleans pot breaker tips, deck plates and bumper plates. Ensures pot shields and doors are properly placed and closed in order to reduce HF emissions. Maintains 5S Standards and general housekeeping. Takes part in spotting and reporting hazards in order to reduce the incident frequency rate and aims for zero LTI.
