Urban Planning Engineer
Job Description:

Key roles and responsibilities:

  • Provide support and participate in liaison with government authorities regarding development objectives, policies, and procedures.
  • Work from concept design through detailed design, producing CAD drawings, graphic presentations, and design narratives within budget and schedule.
  • Collaborate with Master Planners and the design team to develop master plans, urban planning, and landscaping solutions for various projects.
  • Communicate and interact with clients and consultants during the design phase and presentations.
  • Address problems related to urban design and planning of large projects.
  • Assist in developing urban design and planning concepts, including site planning, landscape planning, transportation, and infrastructure systems.
  • Prepare comprehensive design documents for major projects and coordinate work with the project team.
  • Contribute to portions of master plan and site plan development, managing assigned tasks.
  • Resolve complex urban design and planning issues for large projects.
  • Develop urban design concepts that incorporate site planning, landscape, transportation, and infrastructure systems.
  • Establish weekly meetings to review project status and plan actions.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as appropriate for the role.
  • Create narratives on land use, context, concepts, and detailed maps, including SWOT analysis.
  • Work collaboratively within teams to meet client deadlines.
  • Manage and lead smaller projects independently, including client meetings and report ownership.
  • Coordinate team efforts to prepare project deliverables and meet planning authority requirements.
  • Drive innovative project delivery approaches, such as improved site analysis and due diligence assessments.
  • Review datasets, correlate population projections with market demands, and prepare methodologies for proposals.
  • Lead specialty topics in urban planning, e.g., wellness planning or placemaking.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, tools, and methods.

Candidate requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning and Design, Urban Policy, Sustainable Development, or equivalent.
  • 10+ years of relevant urban or master planning experience.
  • Professional memberships such as RTPI, AICP, PIA, CIP, SIP, or equivalent are preferred.
  • Experience in city visioning, theming, benchmarking, and policy development is advantageous.
  • Experience in planning within the MENA region, especially GCC, is desirable.
  • Proficiency in data collection, research, and qualitative analysis.
  • Understanding of various planning scales, standards, and governance.
  • Ability to conduct baseline assessments, develop criteria, and plan implementation phases.
  • Knowledge of planning/environmental policies and ability to advise clients.
  • Software skills include InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong attention to detail, organized, and forward-thinking.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build professional relationships.
