Job description

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has an exciting opportunity for an Underwriting Technician to join our Asia Middle East (AME) Operations team. Based in our Dubai office, the Underwriting Technician will provide operational support to the Underwriting team and will be responsible for ensuring they are enabled to transact business effectively, through timely data recording, investigation of issues, and relevant engagement with internal and external stakeholders. The Underwriting Technician will coordinate support activities and contribute to process and system-based improvements.

Duties & Responsibilities :

  • Assist Underwriters on activities related to account development and management.
  • Coordinate operational support – work with teammates across BHSI to ensure tasks are completed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Check and update submission and underwriting data.
  • Support Underwriters on data analysis and reporting activities.
  • Correspond with brokers; follow up on outstanding information and support account reconciliation activities.
  • Maintain and ensure Underwriting file integrity.
  • Observe and capture process improvement opportunities.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience :

  • Minimum 5+ years of professional experience in the Insurance industry.
  • In-depth understanding of underwriting practices through the policy lifecycle.
  • Experience with Outsource service providers.
  • Stakeholder engagement – able to develop and manage internal and external relationships.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Careful attention to detail.
  • Proactive, collaborative, and with a positive can-do attitude.
  • Self-starter; ability to support and build workflow and process.
  • Excellent communication skills; both verbal and written.
  • College degree or equivalent experience.
  • Strong command of English; both verbal and written.
  • Excellent competency in MS Office applications, in particular Excel and Word.
