Purpose of Role
The Technician (Opto-Electronics) is responsible for constructing electro-optical setups for testing and evaluation purposes. They perform tests and evaluations on various opto-electronic setups. The technician applies knowledge of the opto-electronic field to support the engineering team in achieving qualified products. Additionally, the senior technician identifies and repairs failures and defects in assemblies and components, conducts routine preventive maintenance of equipment, and maintains documented records of findings.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble various opto-electronic test-bench setups and perform testing of related Unit Under Test (UUT) devices.
- Test electronic circuit boards with appropriate testing devices to ensure optimal efficiency, functionality, and compliance with requirements.
- Consult with engineers, customers, vendors, and others to discuss engineering projects or products.
- Read and interpret blueprints, assembly drawings, and work instructions to identify components and materials required for assembly.
- Ensure assembled products conform to specifications; compare finished products to Customer Bill of Materials (BoM) for accuracy.
- Inspect PCB electronic assemblies for defects such as solder quality, parts alignment, missing parts, and visual damage.
- Conduct in-circuit tests (ICT) for shorts, resistance, and capacitance to verify correct manufacturing of PCBs.
- Analyze and repair failures, component failures, and manufacturing defects using light tools, hand tools, and electronic test and repair equipment.
- Perform component-level repairs of PCBs, including soldering and de-soldering of through-hole and SMT components, in compliance with IPC Class III soldering standards.
- Determine material and equipment needs and order supplies.
- Carry out routine corrective and preventive maintenance of PCBs to ensure safe and efficient operation, maximizing output.
- Maintain logs and records of tests, procedures, and results.
- Work with internal departments and teams to ensure optical systems meet performance requirements.
- Investigate the latest optical components, tools, materials, and technologies.
