Job summary

A leading Educational Institution in UAE is seeking a Tutor in Arabic Music responsible for delivering specialized music education for the BMus programme. The role includes teaching Arabic History, Music Theory, and Performance, as well as managing programme development. A Master's degree in Music and teaching experience in Higher Education are essential. Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Music required.
  • Teaching experience in Higher Education/Conservatoire needed.
  • Track record of artistic or scholarly activity in Arabic Music.
  • Desirable: Doctorate degree (PhD, DMA, or other).
  • Desirable: Experience in UAE/UK/US higher education and current developments.

Responsibilities

  • Teach Arabic History, Music Theory, and Performance.
  • Manage programme development and recruitment of staff.
  • Plan and execute student performances and cultural events.
  • Recruitment and interviewing candidate students for the College’s programmes.
  • Lead a team of technical staff and ensure programmes are taught effectively.
  • Plan, direct, and execute student performances, workshops, and cultural events.
  • Contribute to the Academy’s artistic and research output via projects, performances, research papers, books, etc.
  • Work with QA to ensure documentation for accreditations meets standards.
  • Develop relationships with stakeholders in Sharjah, UAE, MENA region and internationally.

Overview

The Tutor in Arabic Music is responsible for the successful delivery and continued development of specialised music education and training for the BMus programme in Arabic Music at the College of Music of the Academy of Performing Arts, University of the Arts Sharjah.

Responsibilities
  • Teaching in at least two of the following areas: Arabic History, Arabic Music Theory, Performance (open specialisation), Music Pedagogy.
  • Management of and participation in the development of the College’s programmes and their operational requirements, including recruitment of specialist staff in consultation with the Programme Leader – Arabic Music, and the Dean of the College of Music.
  • Working with the Programme Leader – Arabic Music on the recruitment and interviewing of candidate students for the College’s programmes.
  • Leading a team of technical staff and ensuring that the programmes are taught effectively.
  • Planning, directing, and executing student performances, workshops, and cultural events within the Academy.
  • Contributing to the Academy’s artistic and research output by delivering projects within and outside the Academy, such as performances, recordings, research papers, books, or other relevant projects.
  • Working with the Quality Assurance Department to ensure that all required documentation for programme accreditations is complete and meets accreditation standards.
  • Developing relationships and partnerships with performing arts stakeholders in Sharjah, the UAE, the MENA region, and internationally to promote the role of the Academy and its programs
Qualifications

Essential:

  • Master’s degree in Music.
  • Teaching experience in Higher Education/Conservatoire and programme management.
  • Proven track record of artistic and/or scholarly activity in Arabic Music.

Desirable:

  • Doctorate degree (PhD, DMA, or other).
  • Experience in teaching and training in Higher Education with familiarity with the UAE, UK, US higher education and current developments.
  • A wider understanding of professional industry practice & knowledge.
  • Higher education fellowship or equivalent teaching qualification.
