Job summary

NMDC Dredging and Marine BU in UAE seeks an experienced Master Mariner to supervise daily tug operations, assist the Master, and ensure compliance with NMDC regulations and the SMS. You will navigate using radar, depth finder, compass, sextant, and local knowledge of winds and tides, directing vessel movements and safeguarding crew and environment.

Responsibilities include ensuring proper documentation, safety reviews, and induction of new crew, while maintaining logs and adherence to local port

Qualifications

• Valid Master Mariner 3000 GT and Below and STCW unlimited as recognised by state, national and international bodies.
• Experience with day-to-day vessel/tug operations and safety management systems (SMS).
• Knowledge of local winds, tides and currents to determine course and towing speed.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day operation of Master and assist the Master in vessel/tug movements and operations.
• Ensure familiarity with fleet regulations, SMS and applicable risk assessments.
• Maintain statutory documentation and vessel logs, induct new crew, and ensure safety compliance.

Job description

Responsible for the day-to-day operation of Master, Assisting the Master in all day-to-day running of vessel/tug movements/activities/operations in accordance with NMDC regulations, policies and operating procedures. Ensuring the familiarity with requirements of the fleet regulations and other documents which comprise the safety management system-SMS. Determine course and towing speed on basis of special knowledge of local winds, weather, tides and current. Steers tugboat to push or pull vessels to destination andto berth and unbearth vessels, avoiding reefs, outlying shoals and other hazards to shipping, utilizing navigation devices, such as radar, sonic depth finder, compass and sextant and aids to navigation, such as lighthouses and byous. Directs placement of suction hose or siphon to pump water from hold of vessels and signals workers to repair leak. Ensuring the vessel is operated as per fleet regulations, national was and local port/harbor by law. Ensuring that crew on the vessel are aware of the contents of applicalble risk assessments. Safeguarding and motivating crew on the safety observations, to protect the environment, to safeguard the safety of the Tug. Ensuring that onboard procedures are established to implement the requirements of the marine standards and other safety management system documents. Issuing appropriate orders in clear and simple, unambiguous manner. Ensuring that periodical reviews of the safety management system are carried out and deficiens are reported to the Marine Superintendent. Ensuring that crew members or new appointed to the vessel are properly inducted regarding vessel familiarization, operational training and procedures.
