Job Description
The Transportation Manager is a critical role within the logistics and supply chain industry, tasked with overseeing and optimizing all transportation activities. This professional is responsible for ensuring that goods and materials are transported efficiently, safely, and cost-effectively from origin to destination. The role involves managing a team of transportation staff, coordinating with third-party logistics providers, and ensuring compliance with all transportation regulations and standards. Responsibilities
- Develop and implement transportation strategies to improve efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Coordinate with logistics staff and vendors to ensure timely delivery of goods.
- Manage the transportation team, providing coaching and professional development opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with all transportation-related regulations, laws, and industry standards.
- Negotiate contracts with carriers and third-party transportation service providers.
- Analyze transportation data to identify trends and opportunities for process improvements.
- Oversee the maintenance and upkeep of transportation vehicles and equipment.
- Develop and manage the transportation budget, including cost forecasting and financial analysis.
- Implement safety protocols to ensure safe transport of goods and reduce risk exposures.
- Communicate effectively with internal departments and external partners to coordinate transportation activities.
- Monitor transportation services to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction are achieved.
- Stay updated on industry trends and technological advancements in logistics and transportation.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in transportation management or logistics.
- Proven leadership skills with experience managing a diverse transportation team.
- Strong knowledge of transportation regulations, policies, and safety practices.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with data-driven decision-making ability.
- Effective negotiation and vendor management skills for carrier and service provider agreements.
- Proficiency in using transportation management systems and logistics software.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities and demands.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for diverse stakeholder engagement.
