Job summary

NYU Abu Dhabi is seeking a Theater Technical Specialist reporting to the Lighting Supervisor to lead technical theater operations for a range of events. You will assemble, operate, and maintain lighting, stage, sound, and video systems and support visiting companies and vendors.

The role requires expertise in lighting and related technologies, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate with Production staff. A Bachelor's degree and fluent English are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field.
• 5+ years of experience with large-scale technical systems, operations and maintenance.
• Experience in maintenance, basic repair, and troubleshooting of technical equipment.
• Ability to read, draw, and interpret site diagrams, location maps, plots.
• Capable of working at elevated heights, 90’ and over.
• Able to lift over 50 pounds.
• Excellent record-keeping, organizational, and multi-tasking skills.
• Fluent spoken English is required.

Responsibilities

• Work as a skilled technician in all aspects of technical theater to achieve successful production results for diverse events (dance, theater, music).
• To rig, focus, program and de-rig lighting equipment and assist with sound, video, stage equipment; supervise facility changeovers as needed.
• Operate specialist lighting equipment, as well as sound, video and stage equipment as required.
• Maintain Technical Department’s equipment through yearly preventative maintenance and inventories; arrange maintenance as needed.
• Represent the venue to supervise support staff and coordinate with visiting companies, rental clients, and crew.
• Adhere to Health and Safety procedures to minimize risk of injury and accidents.
• Ensure all technical areas comply with licensing, fire and safety requirements.

Position Summary

New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint an Theater Technical Specialist reporting to the Lighting Supervisor.

The position will require someone with expert knowledge of lighting systems and familiar with stage, video, sound and rigging systems who is resourceful, adept at problem solving, and able to collaborate with Production and Programming staff in delivering technical support for all Arts Center productions. They will assemble, operate and maintain lighting equipment as well as stage, sound and video systems and provide support for the use of the venues by visiting companies and third party vendors.

Job Responsibilities:

• Work as a skilled technician in all aspects of technical theater to achieve the successful production results for a variety of events including dance, theater, and music productions
• To rig, focus, program and de-rig lighting equipment and assist with sound, video, stage equipment. In addition, supervise facility changeovers as needed
• Operate specialist lighting equipment, as well as sound, video and stage equipment as and when required
• Maintain Technical Department’s equipment through the development and implementation of yearly preventative maintenance and inventories. Perform or arrange for maintenance and repair of equipment as needed
• Represent the venue as and when required to supervise support staff as needed supporting the use of the venues by visiting companies, rental clients, third party vendors, and crew
• Adhere to all Health and Safety procedures in order to minimize the risk of injury and accidents
• Ensure all technical areas and working environments are kept tidy and orderly, ensuring they comply with current licensing, fire and health and safety requirements

Qualifications

Required Education

• Bachelors Degree in a related field

Required Experience

• 5+ years of experience with large scale technical systems, operations and maintenance, preferably within a range of disciplines: dance, theater, and music
• Experience in maintenance, basic repair, and troubleshooting of technical equipment is essential
• Ability to read, draw, and interpret site diagrams, location maps, plots etc
• Capable of working at elevated heights, 90’ and over
• Able to lift over 50 pounds
• Excellent record-keeping, organizational, and multi-tasking skills
• Fluent spoken English is required

Preferred Certification

• Working at Height Certificate
• IPAL MEWP trained
• Manual Handling Certificate

Preferred Experience

• Experience working in the Gulf an advantage
• Additional spoken languages are desirable
